Pickin' on Dave Matthews

Unread post by grock » Tue May 13, 2003 7:26 am

Has anybody heard this album by "Breathe". It is a band of just studio bluegrass musicians. like no names, but they take popular music and do it as bluegrass and solo out the wazoo. it reminds me a lot of BTCS and how there were like 10 musicians on every song. it's upright bass, mandolin, guitar, banjo and maybe some other stuff in there too.

they put boyd to shame and some of the solos rival leroi and tim. the guitarists are pretty accurate on how they play the dave rhythms but they do take some shortcuts. however they more than make up for it with their flatpicking.

this band also does other "Pickin' on ______" albums like led zepplin, some old school rap, Jimi and pop music too. really showcases how music can bridge gaps and how bluegrass musicians are some unsung heros of musical greatness.

The band isnt called Breathe. That's just the name for the album. Those bluegrass tributes are made of different bluegrass bands each doing a different song.

I've heard the album, and I thought it was cool. But thats cause I'm a bluegrass fan. I know a lot of dave fans that werent really impressed with it.

i don't think it is very easy to be a guitarist and say that you don't like bluegrass music. it can be done but the more you start to like just good guitar playing the more bluegrass starts to appeeal.

If some of yall like bluegrass you would love acoustic syndicate... Try d/ling some of their songs if you havn't heard of them.
-Sailor Suit
-Rainbow Rollercoaster
-Beleive
Those are 3 of the best songs, the only one i can play on the guitar is sailor suit b/c my friend watched the guy play it at a concert and taught me. They mostly play banjo. I looked everywhere for tabs on these songs but couldn't find em. Anyway if anyone likes the song i can tab it for you.
