cutaways just don't give as much sustain and can often be kind of bright..Phish0742 wrote:this may be a stupidf question.......besides shape, what is the difference between cutaways and dreads?.....i like the shape so thats why i think I want one
If it's a dread cutaway, then it should basicly sound the same.. if you go GA or GC cutaway, they're MUCH brighter than dread cutaways
Shows Been to: 7-17-02, 12-15-03, 7-20-04, 7-5/6-05
If you can, play an OOO-15.....same guitar as the D, but a different body shape. In my opinion, its one of the most underrated guitars out there.Phish0742 wrote:I started looking at Martins online today and i think I want one of them. I like the D-15 since its in my price range and the DCX-1E Mahogany Guitar. ANyone try these?
Thanks

Martin guitars never sound the same. You're almost guaranteed to get a different sound from two otherwise identical looking d-15s. Sometimes differences are slight, sometimes its very noticeable. I wouldn't buy a martin without playing it first, personally. (And for the record, I love Martins.)Phish0742 wrote:I saw that the D-15 is about $700 in the store and some nice ones on ebay are going for about $400. Thats a bunch of money saved if i ordered it on ebay. Anyone think its a real bad idea or has anyone had any good experiences?
