So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Unread post by gravesRR7 » Thu Sep 09, 2004 9:06 pm

the part that goes
-------------5------6-7-8-----------
---5-6-7-8---------------5-6---

etc

i cant get the timing for that. they come in sets of five, but i cant play that part. is there some kind of patter that's easy to count off or something?

It's a random patter, or so it seems. It's not always in groups of five. Just listen, play, and memorize.

The whole song is in 12. Easiest way to count that section is in 6. Dave is just play the down beats with a note on the "and" of 5. For the second part of the 12 beats, Makes it sound kinda poly ruthmic, but it isnt over the bar line. he just ends it on 5 and rests on the "and" of 5 and 6. for the record, if you knew how to count music, then this wouldnt have been asked. (not be a jackass, but I wish everyone here would know how to count before playing a guitar)

Just make guitar noises throughout the whole time. "sing" the part I guess. Play with Dae if your having trouble, that ALWAYS helps.

it's not random. i listened to it once and upon listening to it i printed out the tab and cut and pasted it as many times as they played it then i highlighted the notes that they accent...got me to learn it.

I believe it's in six. Who the hell counts in 12?

12/8. Its a standard time sig. Most songs written in 12 are two bar phrases so if you put that kind of thing on paper, it would be simplest to put it as one big measure. the chorus for Drive in Drive out is a two bar phrase. Go to any teacher and they will tell you that 12/8 is a base time sig. I, personally, count six too, but you never see a song in 6/4.

Code: Select all

E-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
B--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
G--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
D---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A----------5-----6-7-8--------------5-6-7-8--------------------5-6-7-8-------------5-6-7---8----------------5-6-7-8------
E--5-6-7-8-------------5-6-----7-8----------------5-6-7-8--------------5----6-7-8------------5-6-7-------8-----------
do this twice, only the second time dont play the last 5 notes.

I tried to tab out the jam with the spaces to tell you when to pause, it helped me break up the jam into sections I could remember. I'm not very good with music theory so maybe this could help people like me.
