Musicians, Non-Musicians, and DMB Concerts

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Musicians, Non-Musicians, and DMB Concerts

Unread post by saiyasam » Fri Sep 10, 2004 12:56 pm

I'm not sure how to phrase this question, but do you think a musician's experience at a DMB concert is any different than an non-musician, especially in regard to guitarists like most of us in this forum?

If you have no idea what I"m talking about, please interpret it the best way you can.

Thanks!

i agree. I consider myself a musician and when I am at a concert, weither it be a DMB concert, or any other. I watch the guitar player and try to pick up what he is laying down on the fret board. Also I like to listen to the main rythem and try to analyze it .

totally - at the DMB concert i went to this year i could play most of the songs, but i kept looking at dave and what he was doin, or carter, and which symbals he hit, or what stefan was doin on the bass - its more fun that way

i actually find concerts a little less enjoyable now that i'm a "musician"

i'm too busy trying to see whats going on with the guitar that i don't sit back and enjoy the music as much as i used to.

Since I've been playing I notice that I can pick the guitar part out of the music where before it all blended.

I watch the drums, and the drums only. I couldnt care less about what Dave is doing, since (thanks to this site and Eric Wormanns) I already know what he is doing. Its Carter that I want to know more about. Watching him live is a treat in itself.

haha, me too...it's funny how that works. this was more true when I was just getting started. I remember a couple summers ago, before introduced to this site, I was just staring at the big screen at alpine valley trying to figure out how dave played granny. I used to get so involved in trying to figure out daves finger movements and strumming that I wasn't paying attention to the rest of the band at all (which was not a good thing at all).

I think the term musician is over-used and abused by many.
