Questions on possibly selling a guitar..

Unread post by Dancing Ants » Thu Sep 09, 2004 1:37 pm

Here's the scenario. Back when I got my job, last august, I saved EVERY penny from every check and bought a rare lefty style Epi Chet. After that, I had a nice Fishman Acoustic Natural II pickup put in under the bridge...overall, I spent about $700 on this guitar. I loved it, and it sounds GREAT, and plays awesome, etc etc. The only problem is that I don't play DMB stuff or acoustic stuff anymore, and I've stopped playing live because of work and school (and life in general). So, I want to sell this, I think, but because it took me forever to FIND a lefty Chet, it has a special place in my heart...given, I haven't played it since March or so, but I still like it alot. It's a very pretty guitar, and as I said, it sounds very good. So, if you were in this predicament, would you sale the guitar?

Keep in mind, you never play it, it sits on it's stand or in it's case. Well, you play it once every four or five months...so....what's your perogative on this?

the Fishman costs $150 and installation runs about $35, but I got it all for $135 + tax.

if you're not hurting for cash....might as well keep it....especially if it has the "sound" you've always been looking for. i used to play a lot of pool...probably 7 days a week for years and have a 2k dollar pool cue. all of the sudden i just stopped playing all together (with the occasional sessions in between) but this cue plays very very well according to my style of playing so i just keep it....there's always the strong possibility that i'll pick up compeititve playing again....so there's probably a strong possibility you'll pick up playing regularly again...and when that time comes....it's nice to know i'll have "my cue" to start off with again....and it'll be nice to start your guitar playing off again with the guitar you know suits your style and needs....but if you're strapped for cash....that's a different story =)

I understand how you feel now but sometime down the road (maybe years) you may regret selling it. Especially since it's rare and you've had it customized with the Fishman. Just my opinion.

I think you'd have a difficult time getting anywhere near the money you've invested in it if you sold it.
