Local pub scene rant

Unread post by DSeibel » Tue Sep 07, 2004 11:28 pm

Guys

I frequent the local pub scene (Kitchener Canada) where alot of solo guitar/singers play. I have noticed that in the last few years I have only heard 2 Dave songs played by them, and pretty bad covers to boot. Do you think there is a reason for this? There are a tonne of Dave fans around and I know it would be recieved well. Its always the same old crap......!!

Thoughts ??

Hey

Kitchener-Waterloo is about 1 hour west of Toronto. Waterloo in particular has about 30,000 full time college students and quite a few pubs...I'm sure if a DMB cover band came they would be very well recieved.

Is there a reason why people in your area don't play more Dave cover songs?

Wouldn't you be better off asking the musicians that play in your pub?

Frankly, where I occasionally play folks are not very receptive to DMB. Believe it or not there are legions of people who think DMB sucks and Dave can't sing. Alas, opinions are like assholes, right?

i totally agree. i've met a few guys who are members of the warehouse but that's not saying much and when i play at the local coffee house(better stage than the pub) most people don't really enjoy dave songs. same as you said, people think dave is a pop/god/wannabe who can't sing or play the guitar. true, opinions are like assholes but there's nothing worse than an asshole with an opinion

I heard a guy do a pretty nice cover of SMTS at the bar the other night. I thought he sounded pretty good, even though he didn't play it "right".

Music snobs are sad.

It's like people who are die hard Phish heads and don't even open their minds up to other music. Isn't the point of Phish's music to bring people together, or at least that's what the guys have hoped.

I've heard so many music snobs point their nose up at DMB and a host of other artists.

Ah, wtf right? Who cares?
