Adam
so whats the difference between tortex and ultex?
Well...from what I understand...Ultex has a rhino on it and the tortex has a turtle

;) :P
I believe that is the difference.. actually ultex are a stronger pick apparently.. same style as tortex,but built stronger

For me it's about tone. I need to remind myself to use a new pick every once in a while with the Ultex, because they sound great for a long, long time. With Tortex, I notice a deadened tone after a short while, about 2 hours of playing.

That kind of relates to the Ultex being tougher, I notice less wear on the point of the pick than with other pick brands.

But I prefer Ultex for the sound. Supposed to be one of the closest sounds to Tortoise shell you can legally get.

fingers sound like shit IMO unless it's on bass...bass, it gives it a nice fat tone, and guitar, its almost transparent to me.
I just turn up the higher freqs to give it some more attack.

A pick = ONE pick
Fingers = FIVE picks

The advantage is quite obvious.
You don't use five fingers to strum a chord.

I can form my hand in a lot of different positions so that for example, I strum a echo like chords by placing one finger ahead so that it strums first.

I do use all my fingers, alone and together, to strum. That's what makes it so great.

I've never tried them..but tortex ones, in my opinion are the best picks around.. I don't care if they wear on the front..that gives it some character.. i just love the feel and play they give..

He is not any worse than any other poster here, and the people who claim he is just don't know what they're talking about. The demonization has gotten ridiculously out of hand.

well smarty pants, with dunlop picks, every different size comes in one different color. .60mm's came only in orange then dunlop decided to offer all their picks in black in addition to their individual colors. He used to just play the orange ones, because thats all they offered in the size he liked, then when they came out with the black ones he started using them, I dont know if he alternates or anything, last I knew he was using black
