Look at this and please give me an honest opinion...
Hello there fellow DMB freaks! Firstly id like to point out that this is my first post, so dont rip me to peices for it. Im a pretty new guitarist, about 8 months or so(and loving it). Ive learned the first 15 or so chords. The thing is, im a HUGE DMB fan and with that i obviously want to learn some of his tunes. I am under no illusion, i know his songs are tough- very tough. But after watching a Video of him playing "Oh" on VH1.com, i thought that might be a good place to start. What do you think? If anyone has any opinions, tips, strumming patterns! or like to point me to another song to try first i would be delighted. Thanks alot, and hope to speak sonn....

PLEASE HELP AGAIN
Thanks Guitar guy, ive just checked out the "Typical Situation" Vid and it looks like it could be the best place to start. Now this is going to sound really stupid to You Guitar Vetrans, but i can see on the site which strings to pick, but how do you find out which chords to play? You know what i mean? i think ive explained it correctly. Because on the site it just gives you the tab for the picking and not actually what his left hand is doing. ( i sound so stupid) Thanks again people....

Oh is a fun song to play, but it wouldn't be the one I would start on. Check out this thread and see what everybody else thinks. One piece of advice, try to play the songs using the proper fingers on the fretboard. Don't try and take shortcuts like not using your pinky. It will really hinder your development more than you would guess.

Don't be so worried about sounding stupid, you have good questions. We were all are/once were beginners, so don't worry about it. That being said, I'm not exactly sure what you mean in your question. The tabs show the finger placement for your left hand, whether it be a chord or just a single note. Tabs don't show the stumming patter or rhythem that your right hand follows, that you must listen to and figure out on your own. Kanter's vids are great, but check out Pat's on this thread, the slows them down which really helps. I don't know if that answers your question or not, so, sorry.

Again thanks for replying. Ill try to explain better what i mean. looking at the Typical situation tab on this sight:-
E:--------------------- E:---------------------
B:--------------------- B:---------------------
G:--------------------- G:---------------------
D:----9------9------9-- x2 then D:----9------9------9-- x2
A:-------10-----10----- A:-------10-----10-----
E:-0-------------------
Now im right in thinking these are all single notes with your left hand, am i correct? Then when i watch the video, his left hand seems to be holding down 3 or four strings? Could you explain this for me?
Thanks , you are helping alot!

Unfortunately I can't view kanter's vids at work cuz I don't have the codec. He might be holding down the D, A, and E strings all at the same time and just picking them individually, but I'm not sure since I can't see. Did you check out any of Pat's vids? None of those songs are super easy, but you might want to check out lover lay down, lie in our graves, or one sweet world. I can view those, so if you have any questions on them, I might be more help.

Just hold the D string on the 9th with your middle finger and the A string on the 10th fret with your ring finger. Then use your index finger to fret (hold down) the E string on the 8th fret when necessary.
With your right hand pick the strings and next thing you know; you are playing a DMB tune....

Hello again, i hope im not becoming a pest! Ive just checked out the begginning of typical situation(ive decided this is going to be the first DMB tune i learn) and it was pretty straight forward. Now looking at the next part could anyone tell me what this is?
Harmonics
Fool around w/ these harmonics to get the cool sound Dave adds sometimes. He plays em differently almost every time..just have fun!
E:-*7--------*12--
B:-*7--------*12--
G:-*7--------*12--
D:-*7--------*12--
A:----------------
E:----------------
Im not a pro at reading tab, so im abit unsure what this is. Also im going onto the chorus, anyone got any tips? Thanks Dudes and Dude-ets.
