Inlays....

Unread post by sbhanot » Wed May 07, 2003 11:27 pm

Hey guys,
I was just wondering where to go to get inlays put into the fretboard of my guitar, and how much that usually costs.... Thanks!

Random movie quote to make you seem hip and "with it": I'm thinking about getting metal legs. It's a risky operation, but it'll be worth it.

do you want a simple design or an elaborate design? do you want to put them in yourself or do you want someone to do it for you? what materials do you want? whats your price range?

I don't support the use of abalone inlays. I'm sure the guitar companies obtain their abalone shells legally and from non-endangered species, but one species is already endangered and the others are heading the same way. The actual inlay itself is mother-of-pearl and there are other mollusks that produce it, so those are cool.

They are so valuable, that abalone are being traded for heroin

Well, I'm not really sure of my price range - i certainly don't want anything too fancy, just a nice design on a few of the frets (kinda like that thing that looks like a bat or whatever) - I don't think I could do it by myself, in terms of materials, I don't really care, I would like the quality to match that of the inlays in my Takamin EG540 SC, synthetic would probably be OK, I just want to know 1) what do prices IN GENERAL look like and 2) where would I go to get it done? Thanks all!

As far as prices and more info on getting inlays done, I have no clue. Maybe do an internet search on it at yahoo or excite. Probably something that you will have to ship your guitar away from.
