Best Unexpected DMB Moment
I saw this topic on a Warehouse discussion, and thought it would be cool. For anyone who has been to a show, there has been at least one moment that was like "whoa..." where you are just in awe. Usually this occurs during a song performance. Was there any off the wall, strange, or other type of moment that was like "whoa..." for you that didn't have to do with the music?
For me it was at the Gorge last year. I was sitting on the grass relaxing, and I was sitting in a position where I could just see over the fence which separated the seating from the bus area next to the stage. So I was staring over there and DAVE comes out of one of the buses. I was just close enough that I could tell it was him, just walking around with his hands in his pockets. So I kept watching him until he went back into the bus, and he came out with a coffee cup. He just leaned up against the bus and sipped his coffee. It was so wierd because I am sure I was the only one that noticed him. I halfway felt like yelling "DAVE !!!" but I figured everyone around me would think I was crazy.
It is very strange seeing him doing something normal like sipping coffee...not banging on a guitar and singing on stage.

I can't believe that we would lie in our graves wondering if we had spent our living days well, and I can't believe that we would lie in our graves dreaming of things that we might have been...

2/16/99, Nashville, Ryman auditorium, Dave and Tim, 2nd Row. We were close enough that we could have spit on him.
This alone was motivation enough for the "whoa" reaction, but there's a story to go along.
This was back in the day when #40 was exceedingly rare. A friend of mine and I were REALLY sick of all of the drunk college kids screaming out for him to play their favorite songs. (At one point Dave said, "Welcome to the WWF everybody." Hilarious.) Anyhoo, the girl to my left and I held up sheets of notebook paper that simply said #40. Right after the second Tim solo, when Dave came back on stage, he noticed the signs, squinted to read them, and then smiled and nodded to us. We were in somewhat disbelief, but following crashi into me, we heard the all too familiar C,B,E bass notes. He used a short #40 to jam into Two Step! He nodded to us after the shortened #40 was done.
Again, this was when #40 was very rare. That is my Dave experience.

Coffee should be dark as hell, strong as death, and sweet as love.

Isn't it still really rare? Hasn't it pretty much always been pretty rare?QuattroDore wrote:2/16/99, Nashville, Ryman auditorium, Dave and Tim, 2nd Row. We were close enough that we could have spit on him.

Good stories, thought i might add one in return. This year i decided that no matter what i would attend a dave and tim concert. WEll i got lucky and got tickets to the miami show and the central michigan show. Anyways, since i go to school in california, i really had nothing to do out in ohio and michigan, so my friends and i just stood around the back of the venue at the first show. About 3 hours before the show, dave shows up in a bus and comes out. At this point I was freaking out just because it was dave and he was three feet from me, but what made it "drop your jaw awesome" was while shaking everyones hand, he looked everyone in the eye and said thank you for coming, very direct and very sincere. After many years of extreme fame, it takes something special to do that everyday. The reason i know he does it everyday is because at the next show the exact same thing happend. He shook everyones hand and said thank you for coming while looking directly into our eyes. It was amazing. On that same note, before the miami show lots of people were aksing questions and such, but i refrained being to excited to even talk...however one person very calmy and respectfully asked if BOWA would show up anytime soon. Dave didnt respond, but low and hehold BOWA showed up second song of the night and it was the first time of the tour....so dave does listen to requests, or it was mere coincidence...who knows...but it was cool...
