From what I have read, most analog caputer cards are not that easy to get working, but maybe your friend got lucky and it worked out for him. I wish it was that easy for me.
Hehe yeah ATI have had their problems , they do make good products though .... And the capture card i got laying around somewhere , has been installed on first attempt twice on 2 different computers b4 i got it , i just never tryed it myself .... its collecting dust

I have yet to touch a good ATI product. Period.
FD, you can use a Dazzle (you can get them at Best Buy or really any computer store) to capture the video; it won't be perfect quality, but it will be acceptable.

That absolute best quality you will get from an analog capture is go through an analog to digital converter > firewire > computer.
Canapus makes the best one, AVDC-100. Its about $250 and sends the video via firewire to the computer. It has a TBC built in so the video is always in sync. Only bad thing is the .avi takes up a lot of space on the HD since it is DV.
Some miniDV cameras have what is called analog pass through, which means it basicly does what the avdc-100 does. A lot of the Sonys have it and I think some Canons to too.

My friend has a GeForce2 MX (in case you don't know, that's the cheap nVidia line from about 2 1/2 years ago)... it outperforms my other friends ATI Radeon 9700 (which is their almost-top-of-the-line card - just released 9800)

Hmm, overclocked or something? How can that be possible? I do agree that ATI sucks though... I'd stick w/ any GeForce card...

No, he hadn't overclocked it... i think the MX was running PCI and the ATI was running AGP... there's been some major debate about how AGP2X sucks ass compared to PCI, so that might be the answer. Who knows?

Interesting... AGP should be better than PCI since it's tailored for graphic cards... oh well... probably just that ATI sucks

AGP 4x and 8x for sure, but first-generation AGP 2x kinda sucked.

I'll agree on all that

But i also work with computers everyday and the most common problem i see with peoples problems , is caused by a shitty windows installation , if you don't setup your system right , then you can get the latest drivers and all that , but you would still be in shit ....
