hey man, i played it that way for the longest before i found a good dave version. i think it sounds pretty good. basically though, it should be played however you want to play it. after playing the drop-d version i was totally hooked on that one so thats how i play it. you may try that one sometime and play it like dave cuz it adds so much to the song. another thing about daves way is that its all over the place (fret-wise) so when people see it, they think you are bad @$$ on the guitar even though its relatively easy (after some practice). anyways, to each his own. happy playin.
