Dream Bass Stack

Unread post by Xiablo » Wed Aug 18, 2004 10:36 pm

Hey guys,
I'm new to these forums. Looking forward to posting here more in the near future. Heres my situation. I'm the owner of a large buisness (not releasing the name, due to the fact I need some privacy.) and I have enough cash to really build a dream stack....bass wise I'm going to be going to Brooklyn to visit with Vinnie of Fodera Basses and try some out.

The whole stack thing is bugging me though. All the people I usually go to are store owners and company owners who are always trying to shove their product down my throat, and my band mates really don't have enough bass knowledge to say what would really make a great stack. I'm leaning more towards ampegs products, but I really haven't played the real top of the line mesa cabs either.

So I'm really looking for a stack that would give me a great range of tone, so I'd need a nice preamp as well as cabinet. I'd also like to build in all the acsessories. Acsessories being stuff like tuners, ACs and surge protection and so forth.

The kind of music I like to play is funk mainly, so I need something thats gonna hold up with all those right hand techniques haha. Anyway these guys are really where my sound comes from: Victor Wooten, Stefan Lessard, Steven Bailey, Oteil Burbors, Bootsy Collins, Stanley Clarke, James Jammerson, Jaco Pastorious, and so forth. I like to jump around genres a lot too.

Anyway, yeah - something as souped up as you can go. And I'm not literally gonna buy somebodys list fully. Really just gonna go around after I get my fodera made up and mess with each individual element. Something that will be done over time.

If you guys are helpful with this, I wont leave you hangin haha.. Will get you guys a public archive to upload all the mp3s, movies and pictures you want. It wont allow scripts and random files though - come on, space and bandwidth doesnt grow on trees you know ;). Will get pictures of the complete setup, sound files of it and if your ever in the south philly area you can come play it.

If this comes off as kinda showy, forgive me...Its just big investments like these I really need a lot of opinions. And do not worry about money. The more expensive the better, but if its way over priced and i could get better for less - forget it. That extra money can always go towards porn :)

Hey bud. I don't know much about bass at all. I do suggest looking at Ampeg though. I live in Southern NJ and would love to jam with you if you were ever in the neighborhood. Good luck finding your dream stack

OK. I can help you. I currently use what I'd consider...a killer rig. Ampeg SVT-5 Pro, Furman Power Conditioner, Korg DTR-1000 tuner, Bass POD Pro, BBE Sonic Maximizer and an Ampeg HLF-410. That's if you have big dough to spend. I can get quite literally...any bassists tone I could possibly want. People rag on the POD when used alone because it's a little weak in a live application. The Sonic Maximizer works AMAZING with it. Such a full sound. Not only that...you can download artist's settings off of their website. They have tons. I play a Warwick through that, and one of my presets is going after the Lessard tone. Think the tone from BTCS...well it is exactly that. Just ask whitney (fourtyoneantz)...she says "sounds just like stefan!" Another I have is the Vic tone. That signature Fodera midrange and low end. I then have a flat-EQ setting for recording, and a flea-esque tone for when I want to get a little funky.

You are a bastard for getting a Fodera. I'd give my left nut for one. I'll get a picture up of my rig/stack whatever you want to call it. I have it in a Road Ready 12U case. It's a freaking beast. I suggest that if you are going to get a big setup...to get a practice amp that's decent that you can move around. My cab weighs around 120 pounds...Not fun to move it. The head weighs alot, but I made casters for it so it's much easier to move.

So all in all...if you want a MULTITUDE of tones, getting loud, and have a back that can handle the weight...

Ampeg SVT5 or SVT4 Pro
Bass POD Pro or XT pro (they both do the same thing)
BBE Sonic Maximizer (I use the 882i, never clips and really brings out the differences in tones and fuller sound on all of them)
Korg DTR-1000 Tuner (A 170 dollar tuner that is rackmountable and I can see across the stage. With alot of lights. I always get comments about my lightshow)
Furman Power Conditioner - A 100 dollar power strip that makes everything 100x easier.
I have an ampeg 4x10 with the tweeter (hlf-410) and it is MORE then I could ever use with the setup I have. It gets "too loud" once the SVT is turned up about halfway (!)

thanks tictacs, like i said though - money is NOT an issue. As long as its not a big scam. Gonna try and find links to all this stuff and check it out further. Thanks for the info.

And yes bassmaster, I'm aware - It was a mix up. Looking to have this thread moved.
