I haven't read the whole thing yet, but it makes me wonder if it's a true report simply because this 'soldier' was supposedly firing at enemies using a .50 caliber machine gun. I believe it's against the Geneva convention to shoot humans with that gun, only armored vehicles, etc. It's "inhumane," no matter who is firing at you. I could be wrong though...

if thats is true then it is the stupidest thing i have ever heard. wouldnt it be "inhumane" to shoot humans with any type of gun? anyway, im not trying to bash you for saying that, i just think that it is ridiculous.

Well, you may not be aware of how strong a .50 caliber machine gun is. In Vietnam they would use them to level entire fields of jungle vegitation and trees so they could reveal the enemy. .50's can pierce something like 4 inches of steel... which is insane. I mean, it's one thing to kill someone with an m16, but it's another to absolutely decimate their bodies with humongous bullets. Sounds stupid, but I understand where they are coming from.

That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard of. I may be (and probably am) totally wrong, but in a combat situation, who the hell makes up a rule that says what kind of weapon you can fire at a human. Death is death; it does not matter if your body is decimated or not. I mean what are you supposed to do, say "wait....Referee, Referee, he shot at me, a human!, with a rocket powered granade....that's not fair". War is horrible and ugly and if it takes decimating a few bodies to protect even one person then so be it. Put the people in the Geneva Convention in front of live fire and see how quickly they change their "rules".

I'm curious to hear what the Geneva Convention says about nuclear weapons then. This kind of logic does not follow.

Now, with that said, I agree with bassman....this def is in the wrong forum. What does this have to do with DMB? Please be respectful of the others on this board and post in the correct forum.

Well, the rules of the Geneva Convention govern many things to include the use of weapons and munitions. I know they might seem ridiculous but they serve a purpose. They also set standards for the treatment of POWS and many other things. Granted not all countries signed or follow the Geneva Conventions but they do serve a purpose.
