Lie In Our Graves Jam Section

Unread post by billywestom » Mon Apr 28, 2003 2:53 am

I did this a while ago as part of my full cover, but the vocals were just terrible. I was off-key the entire song. So I cut out the jam part here so you wouldn't have to go through the whole agony. I did a bunch of solos and stuff. Please tell me what you think, peace. :)

Great stuff. I truly enjoyed it, especially around 2:32. Good balance overall of tempo, fast and then gradually slowing down.

Random movie quote to make you seem hip and "with it": The food court is downstairs. The cookie stand is upstairs. It's not like we're talking quantum physics here.

was this improv'ed? if so, and this your first playing, then good job! i thought it was interesting (i.e. not a direct copy of dave and tim).

if this was not on the fly, then, i guess i'd recommend trying to keep in time a little better with the other guitar because there are some times when the extra notes are distracting and seem unnecessary.

i particularly liked the beginning (the interesting note choices). is that counter-harmony? (okay, i'm showing off my complete ignorance of music terminology.)

overall, especially near the middle and end, a lot of the solo stuff sounds timid, and i think that throws off some of the naturalness that really makes this song great (one of my favorites of all time!).

also, maybe some double-stops or bends/slides would help break the monotony of simply sticking to major scale single notes.

i hope this was helpful. good job. i'm always impressed at people's courage to post their work for criticism. :)

thanks for the reply. i guess i wouldnt call this "improv" i recorded it in a few different sections (i.e. the tremolo picking). i practiced the notes and memorized which ones fit for the key of the song. i have no clue as to what key really means, i just play by ear. it isnt hard to tell which notes fit during a solo and which ones dont. im not sure what you mean by counter harmony. i also dont really know what you mean by timid and it being natural. im sure if i were smarter this reply would have helped me out a lot. thanks
