The dance has been attempted by me!Kukini wrote:Dave's dance can't be done by anyone else. It's sweet to see. Anyone else would just look stupid. Dave scat is also something to see/hear...

I just saw a show last month. Dave seemed pissed off, like he didn't wanna be there. He didn't do the dance.i am sam2 wrote:ummm yeah...carter definately looks like hes having the time of his life...but none of the other guys looked pissed off...seems to me like you havent ever seen dave dance or scat....they all love itKukini wrote:Dave doesn't look pissed? IMO he looks like he's having just as much fun as Boyd or Carter, jammin' hard to everysong....TrippingBilly wrote:Exactly, that guy always looks like it's his first concert ever and he's having the time of his life, whereas Dave just stands there looking kinda pissed off.ledzepp4l wrote:I think he is one of the best drummers of all time. Skills aside, he holds the band together and puts out more energy than any drummer has ever. He's the man.

Carter is the absolute best drummer in mainstreem music today. Every single time this subject comes up, we get people that say there are so many people better than carter... but i've yet to hear them
Dave Matthews Band is one of the only bands today that if you changed the drummer, EVERYONE would notice.

No, Carter is no where near how good Buddy was. I have seeen many BR vedeos and own 5 of them. No way is Carter that good. CARTER IS NOT GOD! he is awsomley badass...but no where near as good as other drummers out there. How dare you say Carter is even almost as good as DAVE WECKEL(sp). NO POSSIBLE WAY! Dennis Chamber blows Carter away, Billy Cohbam blows him away, Max Roach, Elvin Jones, Roy Haynes. I could go on and on with drummers better then Carter. Its endless. He isnt that great. thos who do have obviously not heard the great jazz drummers out there. Thos who think Im biased...are wrong. Carter is my favorite drummer, favorite by far. But even I know he isnt all that great. It actually kinda pises me off when people say he is the best ever. Just shows how much other great music is being ignored. By no means is Carter the best or even close to the best. He is a fusion drummer, simple. Get a Mahavishnu CD or a Frank Zappa CD with Vinny Caliouta on it. Just sick stuff happening there. No way can Carter match that.bassman462 wrote:but talent and creative wise buddy rich has been passed up by people like carter and the other person who is carters equal is dave weckyl.TrippingBilly wrote:Carter's idol as a child was Buddy Rich, who is arguably the best drummer who ever lived. He actually became interested in playing drums when his father took him to a Buddy Rich concert back in the day...
...Besides, according to Dave, Carter could "fry an egg back there and still play the baddest drums you ever heard."![]()

He is only overrated by DMB fans. My drummer gives him a decent placing and so do drumming magazines. In my mind (drumming community) he is where he should be or even underrated. I only find him overrated by DMB fans. I dont think he plays busy at all. He donest get too many solos (compared to other band members) and he just complements the music very well.lyrics101 wrote:Carter is a little overrated. He's really fucking good, granted. But sometimes he's too busy and doesn't fit with the band well.
Phil Collins is probably one of my favorite drummers.

When I said overrated, I mean by this board specifically.Beauford33 wrote:He is only overrated by DMB fans. My drummer gives him a decent placing and so do drumming magazines. Of course, most fanboards blow their bands actual talent out of proportion. That's the beauty of fandom.
Stay with me, safe and ignorant.

I try to keep as unbiased as I can be as far as how good these guys actually are. It helps when you listen to the hardcore badass be-bop cats out there. Even better when your drum teacher is onelyrics101 wrote:When I said overrated, I mean by this board specifically.Beauford33 wrote:He is only overrated by DMB fans. carter fits dave's style of music PERFECTLY...you cant just add any regular rock drum beat to songs like Stay. i only have one question for you drummer experts(cuz i dont know anything about other drummers out there who are amazing, like buddy rich)....can these superior drummers do the same kind of stuff carter does with daves music?
