Original - Dave Ripoff

Unread post by jsgksu » Sun Apr 27, 2003 9:02 pm

Alright, so Ive got about 6-7 songs that I have wrote myself, not including this one because I dont think I would ever try to record this song and put it on a cd if I ever make one. It is a song that consists entirely of Dave chords, almost all of them actually. I think its a pretty cool song but I would always hear, "sounds like a Dave song" if I was seriously trying to put it out there. Why I chose this to be the first original of mine to post I dont know but I just think its kinda cool how you can take all his chords and make a pretty cool song out of it. Let me know what you think: http://www.angelfire.com/pa5/jsgksu/

That sounds pretty sweet, sure it has dave style chords, but it has a different feel than a dave song. Nice jam, man

Thanks for listening. You may think it sounds different but most people I play it for normally say it sounds like a Dave song. If I ever tried to record it and do anything with it I just feel I would hear that constantly and it would drive me nuts so Im not gonna try to perfect it or even really finish it.

I wouldn't say it's a ripoff just because you use the same chords. It's not like Dave made up those chords. And those chords are still basic when it comes down to it. The part that makes it sound similar to a Dave creation is the rythmic strumming. A ripoff would be if you took the same chord progression and wrote your own words. Don't take credit away from yourself.

i also thought i would have the same problem.. an original i came up with also uses pretty much all dave chords....except for the solo/jam at the end...tell me if it sounds like a "dave song"...it is "untitled #2" on my page below

See above.....man I wish you guys would stop calling them "Dave Chords" cause they are not. Its like Adam said....Dave did not make these up, and he definately wasn't the first to use them. (Just a little pet peave of mine....hehe!)

Dude your song was great.....sure its kind of Dave style but its not a rip off. Keep'em coming!

I found out I can go through my school but I gotta make a webpage on frontpage first so its gonna take a while till I got something I can put up.

It might sound similair, I actually play:

Code: Select all

e:-----------
b:-----------
g:---8----6--
d:11-x--9-x--
a:9--9--7-7--
e:7--7--5-5--
I dont know if those are similair notes for the Nature Intro cuz I know nothing of theory but it could be, it does kinda sound like the strumming pattern though now that I listen to it.

As for the rhythmic strumming I cant seem to not do that anymore it seems since Ive been playing Dave so much but anyways thanks for listening everyone and takin the time to leave some feedback, maybe Ill think of pursuing the song a little more. Thanks again.

Why do you have to make a page w/ frontpage? Can't you just do a really basic html page w/ some links on it? It'd take 5 min tops.

I guess I could but I dont really know any html stuff and Id like to have a semi professional looking page, I made one for my senior project a few years back so I know how to do it, just have to get around to it. So when finals are over Ill make a nice page, cuz I want to. Know what suck though, Im going home to dial-up in 1.5 weeks. Im gonna be on a lot less. I hate dial-up!! Did you get a chance to listen to the song yet, or anyone else out there take a listen?

as everybody already said - It's not a ripoff
It's just because dave plays those chords A LOT were all used to them. SO whenever we hear a few of em in a row we say.."oh sound davish!" :D
Check out one of my songs called "run away with me"
I almost only play dave chords there, too.
At the beggining you all will probably think that it's very familiar to the "one sweet world intro" but the song gets its own style when you hear it.
