This thread is useless...there are so many great drummers in different styles. Neil Peart...although I think he is way too busy personally...knows what he's doing. Don't be fooled by a big kit though. Terry Bozzio IMO is one of the most ovverated drummers...just because he has a huge ass kit doesn't mean he's good.

Carter's idol as a child was Buddy Rich, who is arguably the best drummer who ever lived. He actually became interested in playing drums when his father took him to a Buddy Rich concert back in the day...

...Besides, according to Dave, Carter could "fry an egg back there and still play the baddest drums you ever heard."

i argue with a friend of mine all the time about how good he is, but all he talks about is drummers for bands like slayer and says carter is nowhere near as good. i think its hard to compare difft. types of music, esp. because im not really into stuff that heavy. but i definately think carter is one of the best around.

i think there is no limit as to how good a drummer can be, skills wise, i think its the way they fit into the band they are playing with that makes them great(along with talent of course). but also, i have to give a lot of respect for the guys playin in different time signatures...some of that stuff blows my mind...like Joe Morello(sp?) of the Dave Brubeck Quartet.

I think he is one of the best drummers of all time. Skills aside, he holds the band together and puts out more energy than any drummer has ever. He's the man. :D

Exactly, that guy always looks like it's his first concert ever and he's having the time of his life, whereas Dave just stands there looking kinda pissed off.

his concept of different styles of music is unreal, he knows how to fuse different styles of drumming into a unique sound, and how to perfectly accent songs and still lay down the beat. hes amazing
