Just curious....

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Just curious....

Unread post by DMB_FAN » Mon Aug 09, 2004 4:33 pm

For the past few weeks I've been playing like 5hrs a day, and I notice myself getting better... I still can't just sit down and jam, I guess I just need encouragement that if I keep at it, I'll be jamming soon! Anyone got any ideas on strumming practice?

with that much practice, i promise you'll be great soon. as for strumming, i've never been able to help much with strumming. i just strum along to the beat, see what feels good to me. strumming is all feel. but some people insist on learning it with ups and downs...

just keep practicing. loosen up your arms, your mind. FEEL the strumming pattern.

Ya, I notice my speed on switching chords is getting smoother and faster.. Especially for songs like Tripping Billies... But I get frustrated because I still can't just sit down and jam. I don't see myself slowing down because my goal is to be good and I friggin love playing the guitar, its all I do.....

I know some of you can jam pretty good, I was wondering how often you played and how long before you were able to really get down. I know everyone is different, just looking for an example....

What do you mean by "jam"? What are you having trouble with?

The man!!

Kinda like you, basically be able to just really get down on the guitar....... The point where playing a song feels more natural then forced....

no no no, i think he means just ebing able to pick up a guitar, and play a song, and be bale to add your own little htings into it. right?

if that's why oyu mean, you're on the right track. you got the passion, you see your goal, just keep going towards it. you're on your way. and when you get there, you'll know.

Ya, I mean I can play stuff that you can recognize, but I mean when I can just get on it and have someone say..."damn!"

lol Im just impatient, I havent been playing that long, but I've been going at it hard for the past month, I just can't wait till I can pick it up and really jam! Right now everything feels forced.... I know I just need to keep at it!

Ya, I understand that, and sometimes I get into a groove, but I know that something has to click before that becomes a constant.
