IMPORTANT INFO on DVDs and DVD Tree

many seem to be new to DVDs and so you might need some help here on what discs to get :)

#1 always buy a decent disc
Maxell will play in 78% of all players (thats the best of any disc)
TDK and Sony will play in 75%
Apple and Verbatim will play in 73%
Fugi seem to work good for most people too

DO NOT use genarics, Memorex, Imation, Hypers--they suck and are a waste of money

DVDPro discs seem to work good for many BUT
they do not work in all burners--so i recommend staying away from them for B+P purposes, the last thing you need is to send them to a branch and they don't work

#2 there are different discs/formats
some are dvd-r and some are dvd+r
you will need to know what your player plays if any at all--to help you go to http://www.dvdrhelp.com
there you can search your player and see what feedback people have gave on different discs

ONCE you knew what your player plays then you can sign up and ask to be but with a branch that can burn that specific format of disc

#3 cost
do not pay more then $4 a disc unless you are hard up to get some
any of the good discs listed above can be found for less then $4
the best price will be around $2

should I pick up some of these at Best Buy or Circuit City or do you know of better places??

I have had many problems with Maxells before, and absolutely none with TDK's. I love TDK discs.

you are the only person oi know that has had probs with maxell
what burner are you using?

bb has verbatim 15 packs for 30 if you can get them before they sell out all the time

It's been a long time since I've used Maxells though, so I don't know.... i just recommend TDKs...

Question about DVD formats (dvd-r verses dvd+r)

OK, so my computer is the only DVD player I own and the info I have on it says it playsd dvd-r (actually it says nothing about dvd+r).

My question is this, are the new DVD players coming out able to play both formats? I'm thinking ahead for when I do buy a new player...it sounds like dvd-r seems to be the more prevalent format. Lets put it another way, If I did not have a DVD player at all right now, and I wanted to do B+P on a show, which format would be the safest one to go with?

On another note .... The program you burn it with is just as important as the disc itself ....

that depends who you ask
i personally think - is better
why, because
the stores sell 5 -r brands to 2 + (around me anyways)
mor eplayers play - (older players)

so what would be best, i say -
however newer players almost always will play - if not both
just like new a days you can't really find a cd player that will not play cd-r
companies know the newer stuff needs to play the newer discs

how long am i supposed to give my branch to email me with the info? I have sent one email thanking him, telling him to let me know where I can send my discs and what discs he'd prefer, and I got no response :!: I just followed up, but I was wondering if there was any protocol on the matter! thanks!

They are supposed to get in touch with you by sometime today (tuesday) so wait till tomorrow till you start worrying (I know, thats proabably funny comin from me)

Hey guys, let me know how your search for dvds is going. So far I found 10 -R discs for $25 at BB. But, I don't really need 10 disks. I could get 5 for 20 bucks too. Have you guys found any better deals? My search has discounted Memorex's of course.
