D'Addario Flat-Tops... anyone ever tried them?

Unread post by DMBTaylorPlayer » Thu Apr 24, 2003 4:26 pm

I just bought 5 sets of EXP15's, my favorite strings ever. Has anyone ever played the Flat-Tops acoustic strings? Just wondering what your impression was of them, if you have. For those of you who are confused, the Flat-Tops are phosphor-bronze round-wound strings that have been ground flat and polished. I've heard they're great for slide guitar but wondered if you guys have tried them. Thanks!

I actually tried them when I got on this Robert Johnson slide guitar trip...

And to clarify, I don't thing they are ground down...I think the the coiled string is square creating a flat surface as apposed to one with ridges...

They really didn't sound any different when playing w/o a slide...

With a slide however, they did eliminate some extra noise...

One bad thing is, they didn't hold up as well as the regulars...Especially when used for blues tunings, etc...

Hoped I helped ya...

Cool. I was just curious as to whether these would be a good alternative to coated strings or not. Think I'll stick with my EXP15's, though. Just love em.
