The Stone Verse

Unread post by Speenis » Wed Apr 23, 2003 12:54 pm

I just wanted everyones opinion on my first, extremely crappy recording of the verse of the stone. It was my first time recording it, and I am completely aware there are several mistakes in it. I just want to know if my rhythm is OK. Note: Don't pay attention to the fuck up around 10 secs. I completely forgot what I was doing for a second.

You're coming along man...couple suggesstions.

Slow down. You sound like youre trying desperately to finish. That will help a lot. The other thing is to concentrate on the 55232 part...Youre not hitting some of the notes there, again likely due to rushing. You're on your way though, just keep practicing and make a mental note to slow down a bit.

You pretty much know how to play the song, you deffinatley need to slow down, hopefully that will help with some of the missed/muted notes throughout the recording. Also the strumming seems kind of forced, maybe its because youre rushing but just slow down and maybe look for some previous recordings of this by other people and try to play along with them or a solo/d&t performance maybe. Get the video of him playing it on the Charlie Rose show, that should help a lot. SOunds good so far, keep working on it.

Yeah, I realized I need kinds whip through that. About the 355232 part, I don't think I hit the last two all the time. I realize that I just kinda threw it together pretty quick, but it sounds a little different compared to everyone elses. The other big problem I have with that is what I think you were talking about, I hurry that part to much. I can't seem to slow down after the last 2, before I start to hit the 5 on the A string. I kinda rush into it everytime. I don't know what it is, but its getting annoying. I feel that if I slow down then it sounds too slow, I can't find a good median. Anyway, thanks for your reply. Anyone else check it out yet.

A good rule of thumb when youre first getting tempo down is to ALWAYS play right at the point where you feel its too slow. Thats probably the tempo you should be playing at. :)

i think the main thing to work on with this one is to try to blend the picking part with the G minor chord....try to make it flow nicely. i think that is the biggest problem

Yeah, like someone else said before, it sounds too rushed. I've been practicing a lot slowing it down to get a better flow and hopefully will be able to post a full cover sometime soon.
