Looking for a decent cheap semi-hollowbody...

Unread post by DT » Wed Aug 04, 2004 1:20 pm

So far Ive looked at the ibanez artcore line which i like- especially the AXD81. I hate the epi dots. Ive seen a few semi-hollow les paul knockoffs by Samick and a few other brands ive never heard of online but i dont really know anything about them. I'm really bargain hunting, preferably for something used and down in the 250 dollar range... I cant find a used AXD81 anywhere and I dont think i wanna drop the 360 for a new one just yet, since im having trouble selling my 12 string. anyone had any experiences with any of these cheaper guitars???

I hate Ibanez, and I dislike hollow bodies. :P

Umm my friend says the Gretch's are pretty good, i forget how much they were, he said they were fairly cheap

i dont like the full hollowbodies either. but ive been checking out sooo many guitars for the last few days and the ones i like the best are the semi-hollowbodies that have a normal-sized body. i cant stand the epi's because theyre so huge i feel like im playing a thin jumbo acoustic. the ibanez i like feels like a light les paul and it just has a small hollow chamber. still has a sustain block and everything. kinda the best of both worlds... now if i could just get it for under 300.

i got an Epi Alleykat.

It's a wonderful guitar. it's a Thinline Hollowbody. awesome tone and great feel. and the hollow gives you sustained feedback for days. and good looking too. is this kinda what you are looking for?

if you do you're homework you can get one of these for less than 250 used. they retail 900 and GC has them at 450.

definitely, there is an alleykat on sale on ebay right now but i think with the number of bids on it, the price is gonna go pretty high. i need to find one somewhere and play it before i bid, because i like that ibanez enough that i might just put down the cash anyways. maybe i can get the store to give me a case or something.

yea i tried searching because i remembered that thread... for some reason the search function doesnt work when im at work, and every now and then hitting the post button doesnt work either. ive gotten in the habit of copying everythign i post to the clipboard so i dont have to retype it every time..

anyways, i tried out a flamekat at sam ash today. it looks a lot like the alleykat, i dont know how different they really are. i also played the ibanez right afterwards... i like the ibanez more than anything i played in the shop under about 1000 dollars. i guess im just gonna wait until i have enough cash or i find an amazing deal... im not ready to spend more than 300 with school about to start.

My friends got an Artcore that was about 300 and I like it. I haven't played it too much, but its pretty sweet.

i think either way you are gonna have a winner. I tried the artcore but really liked the feel of gibson/epiphone neck and the gibson's pickup tone.

plus i fouind the artcore to be pretty flat for a semi hollow and sounded more like a solid. and i wanted my semi to give controlable feedback and when i tryed out the artcore, i just couldn't get it as easy. maybe i just didn't tinker enough.

anywasy, you got a good choice. win win situation.

I STRONGLY recommend a Schecter C/SH1. They're reasonably priced (around $575), and they are great guitars. Hold up well, and play well.

As is stated on there, they sound great, especially with jazzy stuff, which I play alot of.
