Boss Digital Delay Pedals

Unread post by Speenis » Mon Apr 21, 2003 9:48 am

I have been looking to buy myself a delay pedal for quite some time now, and I was wondering what would be the best buy. I have only heard great things about the DD-5, but it is being discontinued and I would like to purchase a new pedal, or at least one with the box, manual, etc... Now, Boss came out with the DD-6 which is quite a few bucks, and would also be my limit right now cuz I gotta save up for college next year. So I guess my question is, should I hunt down a DD-5, is it really worth it, or should I save up for a DD-6???? Also, is the 5.2 seconds of hold a lot more worth it than the 2 seconds on the DD-3????? Shoot me some info people.
PS. I have read all the reviews on Harmony Central, but they can be skewed every once in a while.

The dd-5 and dd-6 are very similar....the dd-6 has a little more to it...

has a longer hold 5 seconds (?) vs. 2 seconds that the DD5 has

has a "Warp Mode" - DD5 does not - I don't know what it does - Fire would know

Has built in tap-tempo - meaning you can tap the beat of the song and the delay follows that rythm

I believe those are the main differences.

I would say go for the DD6 cuz they are easier to find and offer a little more..unless you can find a great deal on a DD5.

Bottom line - the choice is yours....

tap tempo - change delay time on the fly as you play...tap like on the quarter note...or something like that...cool for live playing...

warp mode - blends whatever you play overlapping in a delay warp...it swells volume and builds up to a climax and goes away when you let go of the pedal...

delay - any tempo...change the rate, effect volume, and speed...

the best thing to do would be to dl Tim's cover of Mercy Street (originally Peter Gabriels)...that is done with some crazy effects on a dd-5 I think...the dd-6 is supposta be better...I don't know the difference, but I love the dd-6...

peace
