The Intrigue of Spoon...

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

The Intrigue of Spoon...

Unread post by gcom007 » Tue Nov 19, 2002 2:32 pm

not only is spoon just a wonderfully deep song lyrically and textured beautifully by the band and guests such as timmy, bela, and alanis on the album, but if you just strip it down to what dave's playing it's quite good too. Maybe it's just me, but I usually am not the biggest fan of songs consisting strictly of open chords but dave is able to get a lot out of those chords in this song with them. As much as I love gravedigger, it sounds very much like a simple song, as does STJL...Spoon just is deeper in every aspect...amazing song.

But gravedigger has some AMAZING lyrics. Who cares if the chords are simple, that's not all there is to a song. I have to repeat myself, the gravedigger lyrics are INCREDIBLE!!!

Now to the point, I very much agree with you about spoon, although I'm not a fan of Alanis's voice at all.

did I not say gravedigger was great though? I wholeheartedly agree...I love the song and the lyrics are great, however it does have a simple sound to it. that was my only point on gravedigger.

I like Alanis's voice quite a bit, myself. I also like Spoon and Gravedigger very much. They are quite different though. Gravedigger is simpler but the timing is trickier (not tricky but trickier) Both have wonderful lyrics, in my opinion, both are quite melancholy which I like.

peace,
Ken

sometimes depressing and melancholy songs make you the happiest, I don't get that, but such is the case with these two tunes...

yeah, definiately. I don't understand that but yeah.

I think Pig has to be the most incredible song in its ability to make you feel happy no matter what.

Pig is just plain and simple the most incredible song ever, that's all there is to it, you're talking to the person who for all intents and purposes started the pig campaign back in that cold January of 2001, so yeah...

It has so much passion, and I love Carter's drumming in the song - he really gives it to ya. I love his drumming period but that's not the point. It really is an incredible fuckin' song.

they were absolutely rocking the socks off of that song last year, but I honestly think they could do more even...if they just built it up to no end...it could be the most amazing thing ever...no live moment would top it...I seriously get chills from it anyways so imagine the chills I get thinking about how amazing it could be...

carter's work on spoon was unbelievable as well, especially when he throws in that almost military-style beat in the last verse, and the breakdown at the end of the song. i think the end of spoon really sums up the entire BTCS album...it leaves you with a kind of shiver down your spine, and youre ecstatic after all that great music...
