Saw a DMB Cover Band Last Night

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Saw a DMB Cover Band Last Night

Unread post by jsgksu » Fri Apr 18, 2003 2:08 pm

So I went and saw The Dreaming Tree last night, they are a Dave Mattews Cover Band. They were pretty good, theyre drummer wasnt there because a relative of his had died so it was a little weird w/out the drums. Anyways, the lead guitarist/singer was pretty good but the majority of the songs he played he played wrong. I dont know if he just doesnt choose to play Dave chords or not but it was really annoying me. I was sitting in the crowd the whole time just wanting to be like, "dude, your playing the shit wrong" It was overall good but dont you think if youre in a cover band you should play the music like the artist? I dont know, just found it kind or annoying, anyone else ever seen them or another DMB cover band, what did you think?

If you want to see a really good dmb cover band, check out the Dave Matthews Cover Band. Theyre from Georgia. I went to see them with dmbfanjason at the house of blues in hollywood, and they put on a pretty good show. Very predicatble set, but they covered most songs near-perfect. The lead singer really thinks he's dave. Its kinda funny. The violinist was better than Boyd, and the sax guy had a lot more energy than leroi. Not the real thing, but probably as close as you can get with cover bands. Too bad about Dreaming Tree...at least now you know.

DMCB WAS the shit really...as a band, they're awesome...but I did find one thing that did annoy me as well...his guitar playing looked ugly, and wasnt correct........like you know how you look at dave's hands and sit there in AWE...well, that was not the case...I realized that the accuracy of dave's guitar is vital in keeping dave fans like us at the concert...I left early, and probably wouldnt see them again until maybe after a few months, due to that fact....

the reason his guitar playing really put me in a bad mood because his voice was soo awesome(seriously he sounds a lot like dave).....as for the rest of the band....violinist-awesome, sax-awesome, drummer- awesome, bass- didnt really do shit......but they are the best DMB cover band out there for sure...it was a great show, check them out if you get a chance....

I know what you mean, all the people I went with (none of which play guitar) all thought it was so awesome and were having so much fun and I got bored (partly because I sobered up) but I was watching the dudes hands the whole time and they just werent playing stuff the right way. I seriously could have played 3/4 of the songs that he was playing better. You would think someone who is doing that for a living would look into it and want to play it the right way. No one else noticed but Im sure other guitar players see them sometimes and get frustrated like I did.

I saw the "Dave Matthews Cover Band" Fri night (4/18) in Huntsville AL. They kicked ass. I tried talking to the lead singer and he kind of blew me off a little. I'm not sure how friendly he is. Anyways they rocked! :)

Is it just me or does anyone think that cover bands are laim???

I mean really...it's all good doing covers to get started and all, get to learn some stuff and all..but an entire cover band???? :?: :?:
i dont know about that.....WRITE YOUR OWN SHIT MAN!!!
It's obviously a different story if you're in a band ...every now and then you do a cover....but a whole band that only emulate the real thing.....sorry but that's sad...

Just my opinion..

its one thing to use the style of music, but the exact songs might be a little lame (you spelled it wrong) :|

I've only seen them the one time, but it was exactly what I expected from a dmb cover band. I'm missing some, but here's a few songs they played that night (not in order): 41, Two step, Stone, Crush, Crash, Watchtower, WWYS, Billies, Grey St, etc. It was sort of all "hits." He did do a solo minarets at the end which was pretty cool, but I wouldve liked to hear more songs the band doesnt play as much. I guess you cant please everyone though.

Hey Mike......The only reason he played Minarets was because i told my drunkass brother to scream for it.................

TO everyone that was not there:

My bro screamed minarets like 8 times really fuckin loud(and it was kinda quiet in the building)...and some guy yelled from the back..."SHUT THE FUCK UP!"....and my bro yelled back, "FUCK YOU!"...

I am fuckin laughin while typing because I am recalling the incident...

but anyway, I wanted to see if the guy new any of his "stuff" about dave, even after he botched Billies WWYS and Two Step(few others)....well, he didnt even really play it like dave at all, but it still sounded pretty good...

If the guy did a solo show, his guitar weakness would really come out, but you cant even hear his guitar when he plays with the band...

As for thinking a cover band is gay........I dont think so....It's too much fun to not play dave...I have written my originals, just like everybody else here, but always say, "well, that sounds like everybody else's shit"....then go back to dave...

ok i gotcha...i've heard them play sweet up & down twice which was very solid...have also heard seek up, pig, lover lay down, drive in drive out, best of whats around...i think they have a pretty diverse set if you go to a few shows, but I understand what you're saying...they play a great bridge...the bassist mike came out in front of the stage and tore up the bass line...and dave does a great you never know solo too in the encore...hope they come around to chicago again...peace

a tribute band should play music exactly as the artist does it..........a cover band however, play it anyway they want, and its ok....cuz theyre a cover band.....not a tribute band.
