Electric guitars.. am i meant for it?

tonight i was playing a lead riff for my band and it just didnt sound right. ive played along with the cd and its sounded pretty good. i think it mighta been because were missing an electric rhythm guitarist, but im thinking...

my first love is acoustic guitars.

i went tonight to sam ash and played a 655ce that gave me the same pain that i had when i first played a Taylor.

so now, im considering giving up electric guitar.

that means id have to sell:

my Godin LGX
my newish Traynor YCV80
my Marshall MG15CDR
my Boss BD-2 that i dont even have yet
plenty of cables

so what should i do? im torn at the moment...

maybe its just because ive been feelin like crap lately.

Keep it, shane. You'll never know when you have that "urge" to play electric again, and it's fun to jam with an electric regardless of whether or not you're serious about it. You'll regret it, in the end. I know I regretted selling my first electric. My first love's acoustic, too, but there's some fun to be had with an electric guitar and you some fantastic gear, man.

i thought about that, but i realized that my gear for electric is so much better than my acoustic gear.. and i play electric as an acoustic guitarist... my style just doesnt seem to fit it as well..

maybe eventually i might get some electric gear once i have more money, but i just really want to play acoustic..

ill think about it for a while..

I have always played my electrics the way I play my acoustics, and I like the sound. Also, trust me, in less than a year you will think, damn I miss my electric. Do not do this. Also, you can use boss things for acoustics, Tim does. Also, cabels, you will need those if you want to plug in a pickup on your acoustic.

But here, DO NOT SELL IT.

I got an electric and hate it. I never play it. In fact I would like to sell the thing but the only thing holding me back is the amount of money I will lose on it. I just love the feel and sound of acoustics to much.

i pull out my brothers Les Paul and wail on it for like two days, then go back to acoustic for two months.

why would you give it up because your riff didn't sound good? hell, why would you give it up because you didn't think you were meant for it? there's no such thing as being meant for it or not. something drew you to electric guitar, don't just give it up with a snap of the fingers.

DON'T SELL THEM!! I cannot stress this enough.... I went through the same phase and I couldn't see myself ever choosing an electric over my acoustic so I sold it. After a year or so I wanted it back so bad and I still want one, unfortunately I can't afford it. My advice is if you really want to play acoustic and stray from electrics keep AT LEAST one of them, and if you can keep em all.

not because the riff didnt sound good... sometimes it feels like i barely even play electric to play electric.. i wanted to learn stuff like metallica and thrice and whatnot... i just dont have the motivation to...

still thinkin about it... probably will wait until a friend of mine gets back for the summer before i make up my mind.

Dave plays acoustic like it's some kind of drum! and we all love it! so if you don't "play electric like an electric". screw "the way to play electric" and take your style into it.

I play electric like acoustic sometimes. But that makes it easier to lay down chops for looping or just cutting through in the band with funkier rhythms that i made up playing acoustic.

So to answer you question: DON"T SELL IT!! (but i should say that i have 4 guitars so i'm not the best example of a "conservative" gear head)

also, i can't help but say that metallica is not electric guitar. It's speed guitar.

I consider it like classical guitar is to acoustic.

Electric guitar is Clapton, Santana, SRV, Hendrix, etc. and think this lends itself much more to the "acoustic" approach of electric guitar. I mean Dave basically plays riffs just like these guys but on acoustic.

i think acoustic guitar has never been as "riff" oriented as it is now. Old songs seem to be more open chords. so in my opinoion i think dave has a very electric approach to acoustic guitar and would presume many people on this board do as well.

i hear ya though shane. i m not sure if my "style" (lame ass dave wannabee style) would lend itself to electric either. im dying to give it a try though.
