The Stone Strumming Pattern?

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

The Stone Strumming Pattern?

Unread post by DMBartender316 » Mon Jul 19, 2004 8:18 pm

Is the intro to the stone all downstrokes (with the exception of the double note)? I've tried it with both downstrokes and alternate picking, and both sound ok, but when watching dave it looks like it's all downstrokes.....and if it is all downstrokes, for the second part of the verse after the F type chord or whatever it is, is that also downstrokes or alternating picking?

It's all downstrokes except the --55--232-- on the D string.

yeah, he keeps a rhythm by going all down strokes on the quater notes, and going down and up on the eighth notes.

Code: Select all

G:-----2------------------
D:---------3---5-5-2-3-2--
A:-5----------------------
   D ` D ` D ` D U D U D
all the down strokes are evenly spaced and in rhythm

the second part is also all downstrokes. here is the timing:

Code: Select all

G:-3-------------------2------------------------------
D:-x---5-5-2-3-2-------------------3---0---2----------
A:-1---------------5-------3---1---------------3---0--
E:-3--------------------------------------------------
       D U D U D ` D ` D ` D ` D ` D ` D ` D ` D ` D
P.S. the 31x3xx is a Gm
