fuck yeah!Macht wrote:VIVA TIM REYNOLDS!!!
just cause tim reynolds doesn't play the long/slow drawn out solos doesn't mean he can't play them. tim has such a knowledge of the guitar(along with a bunch more instruments) that i am confident that he plays whatever the fuck he wants to whenever he wants to. think about it, with all the shit you've heard him play with dave, not to mention his solo shit and his own band and his knowledge of other music, drums, sax, trumpet, bass...etc. i just can't really think of what tim can do next in terms of music. so i repeat:

Tim strikes me as the detached scientist ... He's able to objectively study something and not get involved.
Warren Haynes is the crazy treehugger nutjob doctor that goes down to the Amazon every year and lives with the natives.
I really like both those guys but their styles are so different that to compare them is to insult the other IMO.

Am I the only one that really despised Warren Haynes' solo on the central park DVD? It's VERY anticlimactic and not very passionate, to my ears. I mean, the apex of his solo occurs when he tremelo picks notes on the B and E strings. Not only does it sound like crap, but he does the same thing like four times in two songs! I also think that his tone absolutely suckedddd, especially when he played rhythm. Anyway, that's my opinion.

Haynes' solo wasn't groundbreaking, very good of course, he's extremly talented.
Tim's an improvisational player, by his own admission the virtuoso admits he prefers "jamming" rather than just playing a song or leading.

Warren's solo in Cortez was good, but it's nothing that hasn't been done before. I was far more impressed with his solo in Jimi Thing, but even that isn't that amazing. I would much rather have seen Timmy play with them in a live DVD, but that's just me. I don't know how you can say Tim doesn't have feeling in his solos. I've always found his music very expressive, and I'm sure if Tim wanted to play a solo in the same kind of way that Warren did it, he could. When you understand an instrument like Tim does, you're almost unlimited.

i think its up to all of us to choose who we like, and not give a shit about what other people think, their opinions can be valuable to them, and thats perfectly fine
my opinion? warrens solo was great, i really enjoy listening to it
timmy - always great to listen to - he does stuff that other people never think of, he always has great little weird harmonies, the one i'm thinking of now was from help myself on the lost acoustics

Thank God someone thinks that. I was really pissed when I heard Central Park because Warren utterly RUINED Jimi Thing. His style totally grated against that song, it was a boring solo, and just killed the vibe of the song. I'm a huge Allman Brothers fan (before Haynes) but I think that kind of guitar playing just went badly with Dave's stuff.Willin wrote:Am I the only one that really despised Warren Haynes' solo on the central park DVD?
