Huge use of the G Chord

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

people get too caught up in the 'labeling' of music genres in my opinion...it's not about the label, it's about listening to the music and enjoying it... not liking someone because they are "too Pop for me" as some people put it, is the most absurd thing i've heard...if DMB is labeled pop, then good. If they are not, then good... I really don't care, i like their music regardless

I have been considering the heroine lately. I suck at playing so I thought it might help.

I abuse/reuse/overuse the G chord since it's one of the first chords I ever learned.

its just overused in pop because its an easy key to sing in and write guitar based music with

yea, I belive you did.. calm down
actually i didn't, me not liking his new guitar work has nothing to do with what key its in, that comment was merely an aside to the "key of pop" issue
oh, I thought you were agreeing that he was useing G more, and therefore becoming closer to pop. And then you said you didn't like the direction his guitar work was taking. I guess I read it wrong, but you still didn't have to get defensive.

Hey man I dig the APC quote in your sig. :D

Oh yeah back on topic, G's a great chord, there's just soo much you can do with it. Seriously, when your improving, G works good for that kinda stuff.

One chord that I think Dave uses a lot is the Bm chord. It seems to be in almost every song. But, he can do it and not me, so is still the shit! Am I right?

I think the liberal use of G or Bm doesn't imply anything really. It's what key he plays in and what chords are used as a whole that detirmines these thiings. His chords are almost always major, minor, or suspended. He hardly uses any dominant chords which is a shame cause they're pretty important. There's almost no real tension in his music which is irratating cause the build and realease of tension is what makes songs dynamic. Classical and Jazz are based around this concept and thus Dave is very much pop.
A good example of a pop artist that creates complex but accessible music is Sting. He's the shit.
I love Daves music obviously, but it didn't take long to realise that it's very simple and as your ear gets more developed it gets boring. There's a handful of his songs that I consider as good as it gets but I know longer hold him up on a pedestal
