yeah i know what you mean...i'm playing at a party tonight for friends....it's not easy to play in front of people at the beginning... but the one thing you really gotta try and do, is block out your surroundings and focus solely on the sound of the music...the first couple times, the adrenaline is overwhelming and can make it difficult to concentrate if you have peformance anxiety...it's normal obviously, you just gotta learn to channel it though... playing open mic nights at pubs or coffee houses is a good way to practice...cuz people aren't as critical about performance and so you have a better chance to hone your performance skills... and don't be self conscious of your voice, be confident x10... any hint of 'doubt' while performing can take away from the song...plus i think we've determined that you have a really good voice...and this is a 'public' forumfortyoneantz wrote:wow thanks a lot. i'm very self conscious of my voice. i wish i could perform in public, i dont think i'm good enough.JaDaRu wrote:great song....great cover. i have yet to do any sort of open mic or any public performance. i don't even sing/play songs in front of my best friends when they ask. i need ways to get over this! helptjmac66pc wrote:yeah i know what you mean...i'm playing at a party tonight for friends....it's not easy to play in front of people at the beginning... but the one thing you really gotta try and do, is block out your surroundings and focus solely on the sound of the music...the first couple times, the adrenaline is overwhelming and can make it difficult to concentrate if you have peformance anxiety...it's normal obviously, you just gotta learn to channel it though... playing open mic nights at pubs or coffee houses is a good way to practice...cuz people aren't as critical about performance and so you have a better chance to hone your performance skills... and don't be self conscious of your voice, be confident x10... any hint of 'doubt' while performing can take away from the song...plus i think we've determined that you have a really good voice...and this is a 'public' forumfortyoneantz wrote:wow thanks a lot. i'm very self conscious of my voice. i wish i could perform in public, i dont think i'm good enough.JaDaRu wrote:great song....great cover. well you've been around here for a while, so i don't need to tell you about practice...obviously to get more comfortable with this situation, you MUST expose yourself to it more which does mean more practice with that type of environment....i know how overwhelming it can be... i still get just as nervous when i play in front of 7 people as i do when i play in front of 40 people... Dave even gets pre-show jitters... the difference is, he channels his nerves into energy (as do most performers/athletes)... a good start for you, would be to play songs you are most comfortable with (easiest for you to sing and play) in front of your friends...whether it be at a party, campfire, or just chillin'... find some songs to play that everyone can sing along to, that makes the experience even better, cuz then you forget about your nerves and think "this is frikken great, i'm sitting here playing 'sweet home alabama' and all my friends are singing along"... it takes time to get over it, but you should start trying it out more...and i always say 'who cares what anyone else thinks i'm just here to play music'fortyoneantz wrote:

i've definitely had that feeling before...but it was like all of us singing "crazy game of poker" at my best friends party, sitting around drinking and stuff. it was really funtjmac66pc wrote:well you've been around here for a while, so i don't need to tell you about practice...obviously to get more comfortable with this situation, you MUST expose yourself to it more which does mean more practice with that type of environment....i know how overwhelming it can be... i still get just as nervous when i play in front of 7 people as i do when i play in front of 40 people... yeah, that's definitely the most rewarding part about playing the guitar..when everyone 'feels' the musica, there's nothing more fun than thatfortyoneantz wrote: i've definitely had that feeling before...but it was like all of us singing "crazy game of poker" at my best friends party, sitting around drinking and stuff. it was really fun
