Please Critique My Billies Verse
Please Critique My Billies Verse
Ok I seriously have been trying to play this song for 3 months now. However, I am still unable to get the verse to sound right, which seems to be the most common problem on these boards. Please listen to my recording and try to tell me what I am doing wrong and what needs to be done to fix it. Thanks for the help.

it's really hard to explain what is wrong, but there definitely is...it doesnt sound like you looked at the tab on this site.
I can't believe that we would lie in our graves wondering if we had spent our living days well, and I can't believe that we would lie in our graves dreaming of things that we might have been...

It sounds like you're not playing this part or if you are then you're playing it really fast and not emphasizing it.
Play the whole verse real slow in your mind to see how to play this part or just listen to tripping billies a whole bunch of times.

Thanks for the help so far guys. Here are a couple things I have to add:
I am 100% sure that I am playing everything exactly like it is on this site. It's my rhythym that is all messed up. Im hitting every string correctly but it just doesnt flow, and the timing is bad. I've listened to it a bunch too. Any other suggestions??????
Thanks
Jess

Okay here it is. I recorded this using the microphone on my laptop so the quality of the sound isn't that great. Hopefully it gets the point across though.

I havn't listened to it yet, but if it's timing you're having trouble with than don't worry. that's the hardest part about this song and many Dave songs. and don't get discouraged, it took me longer than 3 months to get this one down. only advice I have is to LISTEN LISTEN LISTEN to Live at Luther and Storytellers and practice along with it. you'll get it, eventually.jebro wrote:Any further comments on manjingo's suggestion? After further review that part is off. I do play it but I play it quickly. What exactly do the ~ mean?? Can someone give me an idea of timing on this?

that means that you keep that note ringing while you play the slide on the B string...it's a bit of a stretch...jebro wrote:Thanks for putting up the recording manjingo that is gonna help a lot, I can tell i have some more work to do. Can you give me an idea on what I need to do on the ~~~~~~ part?? That still confuses me.
