My first cover - Warehouse
Alright, so I finally got this up. I dont know why it was so hard before cuz it was easy as hell this time.
So heres the link: http://www.angelfire.com/oh5/jsgksu/
Now for my disclaimer, its my first cover and I did it in one take. I didnt play along with a cd or sing to it so the amount of times I played the verses/chorus' etc. may be off. Im just looking for some feedback to my actual playing. I know I messed up a few times so aside from the obvious screw ups what else could I improve on. Thanks.

Hey man, very solid first cover. I'm impressed. The most notable missing element were the slaps...there should be one at the end of the 7-9-11, and one at the end of the 7-9-10 part just to name some obvious places. Also, your strumming was off for both chorus parts...listen to l@lc and see what I mean. It kept the beat though, so no worries. Good job, and keep it up. How long have you been playin?

Thanks, for the slaps, what exactly do you mean, I dont think I quite understand. Ill deffinatley listen to l@lc to see what you mean, I thought it sounded right but I must've just played it that way form the start and never really realized. I played electric (Nirvana etc.) for about two years when I was younger than quit for 2+ years then got an acoustic two Christmas' ago and started playing again and got into playing Dave. It was kinda like I was a beginner but I did remember some stuff so I was a little better off. But Ive been playing steadily acoustic Dave stuff since then so I guess Ive been playing for a year and a half with a head start. Thanks for the listening and giving some feedback, Ill try to fix what you said and hopefully Ill be posting some more songs soon.

Ok, so I listened to L@LC and I still dont really know what you mean about the slaps, maybe you or someone else can elaborate. Anyways, as for the first chorus I think it sounds right (once again I could be wrong, anyone wanna help) and the second chorus, I know its not the way he plays it but I think that way is to dull and slow solo so I tried to make it a little more upbeat. So, can you, or anyone else tell me exactly how to fix the parts, if Im playing it wrong Id like to know. So, anyone else listen to it, any other comments/suggestions? Thanks again.

Sweet stuff dude...that's why I love it here...I can always here a fresh cover with somebody's own style in it...
The only minor probs. I could find would be the slaps sound just a tad too uniform...in other words, try to give every chop in the song some character...don't get me wrong, it sounds fine, but if you wanna tweak it a little more, try putting individuality into each strum...feel it out and just remember to stay on time with that tricky but fun rythmn...
another suggestion for tweaking would be (and this coincides with what I stated above), try to get some palm muting down on the right hand...a great example of that is the version off of RECENTLY LP...
just some food for thought...it sounds solid, but if you want to take it to the next level, just play along and do your best to figure out the palm muting...
good stuff and I look foreward to hear more from you soon

Thanks, I thought I had this sounding pretty much like Dave but the more critiques I get and the more listening I do the more I realize Im a little off. For the palm muting, thats just when you kinda put your strumming hand over the strings while you strum right? Anyways, thanks for listening and for the input, Im taking it all in and trying to work on the verse to get it to sound better. I should be putting another cover up sometime next week. Also, I got this other little thing I recorded and sent to my friend who put lyrics down over it on my site to if you wanna listen to it, its really rough and just our first take on it but its ok. Thanks Again.

I will check it out then, but as for the palm muting, for me - I just use the butt of my hand - close to the wrist bend - to just keep the strings from carryin' away and to give "character" to each stroke...it's one of those things that evolves the more you play...but palm trapping and muting and brushing is all finess stuff...the thing is, your cover has got all of the vitals (or darn well close to it), so you should fool around giving character to your guitar...work on controlling the volume of each string the way YOU want...it's all free to interpretation and that is why I love playing so much

Damn, so I have to explain this now. So, it's a guitar my uncle got out of Marlboro Miles (hold your laughter please) It cost 2,000 marlboro miles and 50 dollars. It doesnt say marlboro all over it or anything like that it looks pretty much like a Martin. It has a spruce top and rosewood back and sides. Here is the link to the Harmony Central reviews if you care: http://www.harmony-central.com/Guitar/D ... ht-01.html it is actually a really nice guitar despite its origins. I am looking to get a Taylor 310celtd. sometime soon but I actually am amazed at the quality of it.shane wrote:sounds good. what kinda guitar are you using?

When you buy a pack of Marlboro cigarettes you get 5 Marlboro miles which are part of the package. Kinda like planet lunch points, slush puppie points, etc. They come out with a different catalog every year that has items in it that you can redeem for your marlboro miles. I dont smoke but my mom and uncle do and they both bought a guitar out of the catalog for 2,000 miles (400 packs of cigs) and $50. Its really a pretty nice guitar and for the price it cant be beat. They only sold them in the catalog the one time (like 2-3 years ago) I wish I could have told other people I know so that they could have got in on the deal but its a little late now. Thanks for listening and for the comment, hope that clears up the marlboro miles issue.IronMike778 wrote:Very nice work on the song....smooth and clear...excellent sound.
Now, what the hell are Marlboro Miles and why was the axe only $50?? Sorry for my ignorance but please fill me in.
