people really gotta give him more credit....i know of a lot of drummers who hate him mainly because they can't play most of his stuff because of his drumitar.
i think the guy is extremely inventive, original and well rounded - i mean thats what the flecktones are really. Musicians pushing boundaries and finding unusual way to play their instrument...
bela taking a banjo into jazz, funk and all different areas of music that banjo was never though to be able to go
victor taking the bass guitar and creating and remaking techniques and breaking down boundaries
jeff, always finding a new and bizarre wind instrument and pushing them to their max - in songs such as earth jam even playing two saxs at once perfectly while most musicians have trouble getting that sound and precision out of one
and then futureman. I dont think futureman should be considered less of a musician than the other guys, as they all do their own thing. without futureman i definetly dont think the flecktones would be quiet as original and inventive as they are today....theyd still be kick ass, but futureman gives it that unique touch in my eyes.
now vics by far my favorite - but futureman seems really underrated in my eyes.

Rhythm is rhythm. And whoever says futch is bad because he doesn't play acoustic drums is an idiot, plain and simple. Not only does he STAND BEHIND A FULL ACOUSTIC KIT AT SHOWS, he can absolutley SHRED on a kit. Before he had a drumitar, what did you think he played? A bunch of frying pans? No, a drum kit. Futch = rhythm god. Try playing drums with a piano with one hand and just keeping a steady beat with another hand tapping on the couch or something. Now use all five fingers one the piano, one hand hitting all sorts of drums in a real kit, and then both feet on pedals. It isn't easy. At all. He's doing at least 8 things at once most of the time. 10 or more when he uses both hands on the drumitar. He isn't ALWAYS using all ten fingers but on his solos he does and on some 'tones songs he does. Futch is the MAN. No question. He has also invented his own music, so to say. I talked to him for 10 minutes at a flecktones show. He made all of his own scales and tones, based on the perfect number 1.68 and made decatonic scales. He designed a piano in the shape of a periodic table that meshes sounds from nature all together. It sounds AMAZING, I have never heard anything like it. So people who say futch is not good or they look down on him need a beating.
