Guitar Newbie with a few questions :)
Is tabs the easiest way to go? I've listened to dave for years but have never even held a guitar for more then 10 minutes. I'm in the process of memorizing chords too. I have a friend that use to play and he told me to know chords and to look up to tabs online to start playing. I've been only playing for about 2 days, and i found a thing online that explained tablature, so I was set. But just starting out, should I be even trying to attempt parts of songs? And should dave be the type of songs to attempt?
Right now I am working my way on getting the verse down on Ants Marching (one of my favorites), and maybe I'm just optimistic/ full of myself but I thought I was sounding better. I dont know though to other people they might be like "uhhh what are you doing". Sorry for all the questions but I want to get started right with guitar, and I know the best way to get better is to just keep practicing and playing. Just lookin for a little advice from the experts 8) thanks.

Re: Guitar Newbie with a few questions :)
it'll take you a while to get up to speed with ants.. dave's stuff has complex fretting hand muting that will make his songs difficult. Just if that's what you want to learn, go for it. Practice often and don't get discouragedGrachi wrote:Is tabs the easiest way to go? I've listened to dave for years but have never even held a guitar for more then 10 minutes. tabs are the easiest way to go, but not the most beneficial.

DMBtabs.com welcome to it
anyway, umm i dont know about dave as a 2 day guitarist, keep tryin at it, but dont spend too much time, if u keep movin on in other guitar stuff itll eventually work with dave...
i guess this would work with you
this is just a starting regiment to strengthen fingers and get you going pretty good.
15-30 minutes doing regular tabs, and warmup stuff you can get off the net
15-30 practicing chord progressions
15+ working on dave

Alright thanks. And yea, my biggest problem is moving my fingers fast enough to hold the right strings. I also strum the wrong string cuz im usually busy looking up to see my fingers are on the right fret/string and then i'll hit some other strings all together hehehe
And thank you filmdude, I appreciate it cuz yea I must say I really didnt know where to start so I just thought to myself "ok you can read tab now go learn", so that helps me greatly.

I really got better with my covers when I started using the videos, but not everyone can learn that way, but that is why I'm on the board now...

Re: Guitar Newbie with a few questions :)
you should attempt "satellite", "deed is done", or "what would you say." ya, but that's great that you are beginning off of dave. remember not to get frustrated and when you are, take a break because it's stupid to play out of frustration.Grachi wrote:Is tabs the easiest way to go?
