i think of great gutiarists as those whose level of new thinking is higher than others. after all 14 year olds can play hendrix stuff now, but back then he was doin stuff no one had ever heard of, now its standard.

I've never played guitar with my teeth or while it was on fire, thats for sure. I saw tim do it at a concert and dave was amazed. Hendrix's solos are amazing, dave is just a rythm player, yes an awesome one and his stuff is difficult, but solos are important if you are going to call dave better than hendrix.

dave is one of the best rhythm players of all time because of the fact that a) he seems to like it so thus he persues it more and b) his rhythms are interesting enough that they dont need another guitar to make stuff seem complicated or whatnot.

jimi was actually a more amazing player than dave, claptop, van halen, page, and more because jimi didnt know how to read music. everything jimi did was from his ear. he was never thinking "ok, i need to be in key of A minor without doing this...yadda yadda" he was thinking "ok, this needs to sound like this..." and he played it. jimi knew the guitar like no other.

id say most overrated(of people who are actually considered good) is someone who plays just very very fast...nothing creative, just so much speed that it seems like they have more talent than they do. van halen comes to mind first but dont jump on me because i dont know all of his stuff.

Keith Richards is very overrated! I love that guy, but he is overrated! He has some very original kick-ass riffs, but none of that stuff would work with just him on guitar! Ronnie Wood has to back him up so much. Have you ever seen a Stones concert? Both guitars don't always play at the same time. Keith basically uses Ron to mesh the guitars together! I don't think it would sound very good with only one guitar. There would be ackward pauses in the songs. I'm not here to bash the Stones, cause I love 'em. I'm just stating the truth! If it weren't for Ronnie Wood, Keith Richards wouldn't be as good as he is! Ronnie is very good by himself. We have The Faces th prove that! The Faces Rock!!

this makes no sense. how does lighting a guitar on fire make you a great guitarist? sure, it's a cool trick along with playing with your teeth but sheesh.

he may have been "the guitarist" of his time, but when i hear people refer to him as the king of guitar i just can't help but object to it. the only thing i can say that i find somewhat impressive is the fact that he can play those guitar riffs/solos while singing to them. i can't even fingerpick time of your life and sing to it. then again dave sings to songs like "one sweet world" while keeping a balanced and constant rhythm. plus, he remade all along the watch tower, didn't he? 8)

Ok he had remarkable speed, amazing solos, etc etc., but even with that pushed aside the man invented so much that is used today. I have not seen anyone since him to do so much for music (maybe I have, but its late and I can't think)

I'd like to see you try that!

The main thing that allows Dave to play constant rythms and sing is his right hand. Watch it, it never stops moving in a constant rythm. dave song's aren't really that hard to sing if you keep the rythm constant in your right hand.

Hendrix's version of Watchtower is a cover as is Dave's...it's a Bob Dylan song!!!

Hendrix is not overrated at all! I mean even Dave appriceates him! Whom do you think the song Jimi Thing is about?
