taylor vs. martin (action)

I am awaiting my new martin but i have a question for all taylor owners? How low is the action on taylor guitars? I've played quite a few and i like how easy they are to play. I dont really want to take my martin in and say make it as easy to play as a taylor. How much higher is the action on martin guitars than taylors the way they are set up at the factory?

heres the thing, i played all the taylors at one store and the martins at another. plus i was kinda hoping for some kind of measurements

theres nothing you can do to a Martin to make it play as well as a Taylor... i bet even Martin fans will tell you that.

At the *uptight* music store here that sells Martins and Taylors, and they have a huge selection, I tried almost all of them. It sucks there, though, since the guy sits with you, and has to get it down himself. I once had private time, though, and played most of the martins and taylors. I ended up liking the Martins more. But Taylors are great, very good quality, no need to put them down, they make very good guitars and look good, sound good, and feel good. The thing was, I liked the sound and style of the Martins more for my style of playing and my songs.

Sound, feel, and look is all personaly, what you like, but it's only your opinion, and doesn't make any other opinions on them at all. You may think Martins are better, and someone thinks Taylors are better. They are both right, because it's all personal preference.

I totally agree Ranting. If you're getting a Taylor, you're getting a good guitar. If you're getting a Martin, you're getting a good guitar.

Heres my suggestion. Play your new Martin for awhile and you may just like how the action is. Remember that lower action generally produces less sound (think loudness of guitar) and may produce more buzzing at frets if its too low. However lower action is easier to play generally. You have to find that perfect level for your playing style. If you strum alot which I am betting you do you want a mediumish action. Low is generally more for fingerstyle.

To get to my point, If you want to experiment buy a new "bone drop in saddle." Changing action is always done at the saddle. I suggest you call Maury at Maury's music or go to his website maurysmusic.com. He is GREAT to deal with. (570) 645-3761 ask for maury and tell him what you want. He can mail out to you a low action drop in saddle. I did it for my D-15 and like it---better sound also with the bone material. Cost probably 20 bucks i think. If you dont like the action it brings you then just pull it out at next string change and replace with factory one. ALso, hit up http://www.umgf.com for all your Martin guitar questions. Great site.

I would agree totally with Rant but I do think that Taylors play smoother or easier, and as for producing less sound I think you should play a Taylor because I know noone around me can hear the person next to them talkin if Im strumming. But theyre both amazing companies its all preference, apples and oranges.
