playing Dave for an audience
playing Dave for an audience
Okay, so my school is having a talent show and i'm thinking of playing dave for it. i don't have too much time, so i thought i'd play a setlist of maybe the following.
#40---->Lie in our graves (like on the L@C cd)
the stone
tripping billies
i can play most of the dave songs pretty well, and these are the ones that i think would be the most fun. but i was wondering if anyone out there had played for an audience before, and what are the crowd pleasers. What songs will get the crowd going? any feedback is appreciated

ok, sounds good. i think i'll do a medley of songs all transitioning into eachother, and i wasn't going to do crash, but maybe i'd be a good way to end it up. it'll give the audience a last high. thanks for the suggestions. i'm still open for some more......

wow, dude, we think alike...
i am gonna play the stone and billies at mine, and also need to pick a 3rd song...
i was thinking of one sweet world with extended intro, warehouse maybe...
LIOG was also in consideration, JTR maybe, my buddies wanted to do crush, but im not gonna, 41 would be cool,
tough thing is, deciding what is gonna be within the best limits of those playing and singing with me, and what sounds best without a violin or sax, or carter...

there's open mic every tuesday at this mexican restaurant not too far from here. my sister took me there with a couple friends last tuesday. the guy that was kinda hosting it was very good and was kinda stealing the show, but I was thinking of going and playing some night. it's a pretty cool place with a good atmosphere. I have to get a guitar first, though
I don't want to have to borrow his and maybe break a string or something. anyway, I was thinking of playing like Tripping Billies or something like that.
I prolly won't have the balls to get up and do that though.

I did the stone for my talent show...everybody loved the song but didn't know it...
be careful how good you do them because people now call me DAVE MATTHEWS (dread
) which is the last thing I want...unlike Jason

I would say give You Never Know a shot especially if you use the capo 2 tab on this site. That one would definately win you some talent shows...singing and playing to variable timing.
If you have the vocal confidence I would also suggest giving Bartender or Grey Street a shot. I know I keep tossing out new songs here but everyone has heard Crash Into Me (actual name of the song...Crash is the album) and Tripping Billies plenty of times. Spice of everyone's knowledge of Dave a bit....get the new stuff out there.
Ah hell, you can always just do Two Step....that's a fun one.

crush is an easy abrev. like "abrev."
LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING FROM EXPERIENCE (playing at a talent show)...the scoring has nothing to do with talent! I did a fairly good job of the stone and some other guy did a hard song but you wanna know who got 1st. 2nd. and 3rd.? The 3 female R&B girls singing to recordings...what a joke...they invited apples and oranges (genres and categories) and only awarded the sleezy girls singing Destiny's Child
So the bottom line is "comprimise" or settle for losing...that is what is wrong with the shows...

Its actually great for solo acts...from what I gather you are beginning in the guitar world, there is alot to stretch in #41, but if you get that, you aren't going to regret itsnoopdoug1 wrote:I know this is kinda off topic... but does #41 sound ok if you are just playing it by yourself? It's the next one I want to learn but do you need 2 guitars? Sometimes it sounds like you do...

I played this song without holding the d-string down on the first two chords and without holding the g-string on the third chord at first, it sounds less full but is much easier. But I guess you should just learn it the right way cuz you'll want to know it that way eventually, I did. Just thought Id mention it.firedancer86 wrote:Its actually great for solo acts...from what I gather you are beginning in the guitar world, there is alot to stretch in #41, but if you get that, you aren't going to regret it
