Ok everybody, I really need some suggestions. I'm playing a Johnson guitar because it was really cheap and I wanted to make sure that I would love playing. Well, now I'm looking to upgrade. I would like to keep it under 500. Please let me know your suggestions. I currently like the Martin DXM. Thanks!

I suggest just going to a store and playing guitars till you find one in your price range that you enjoy playing. The DXM is a good guitar, but i'm sure many other guitars out there sound much much better then it does..
and watch what forums you're posting in..

For that price range Alvarez makes a very good guitar that will sound just as good (or better) as guitars that cost much more.

becareful with alverez's, some of the most amazing and crappy guitars ive played were alvarez, so if ur buyin one, always compare it to some martins or taylors, if it doesnt get close or surpass them keep looking

This is true. A good Alvarez is better than a Martin or Taylor of twice the price. A shitty Alvarez is . . . well, shitty.
Just always, always play the guitar first.

Just go to a store and play all the ones in your price range and see what you like. No two guitars are alike and no two guitarists are alike so i could like one guitar and you could like another. Same with string preferences and different styles and such.
