harmonics stuff question
harmonics stuff question
ok, i understand the general concept of harmonics, and how to do them. like i understand that the pitch of a harmonic at the 12th fret is the same as the fretted note at the 12th fret. but other than that, i dont know how to tell which harmonics are what notes. i dont fully understand the concept which harmonics are which notes if they match up at all whatnot. if anyone can give me a good explaination of this, hopefully including what harmonics are which(like "the harmonic on the A string, 5th fret, is this note:_) that would be great.

That is for a guitar player, but if you read the bottom 4 strings there, it will tell you what pitch each harmonic is, roughly (some are many cents off of 'in-tune').. there is a pattern, but the chart is good.
The most important thing to note is that you can't play a C using natural harmonics. However, you can do it with artificial harmonics; fret the A-string at the 3rd fret (like normal) and tap the 15th fret, and you will get a C.. takes some finesse to make ring out well, but it works.
The chart lacks the 2nd fret harmonic, but I have always argued that it is impossible to play well, and it is worthless (2nd octave of the open string), as you can fret at the 12th and pluck at the 24th to create this same pitch much louder and cleaner.
