hawaiian guitar sound

Unread post by Matty Boom » Wed Jun 16, 2004 7:02 pm

well, as i listen to more and more jj, occasionally he'll bust out a real distinct hawaiian style melody (sometimes on an ukulele), but anyways, i'd love to be able to come up with this stuff on my own or at least become proficient in playing it

so anyone with any knowledge please help me out, thanks!!

you can see all the 6th chords here: http://www.chordbook.com/cb100/vguitar/ ... chords.htm

you can also click the "show inversions" tab, and it shows more

Hawaiian music uses a tuning called "slack-key"

Slack key actually consists of a ridiculous amount of different tunings. It's like they begin each songwriting session cranking pegs in random directions and then they see what they can do with it.

But it's good music, so more power to them.

Yea I wanted to learn slack key slide, but when I relized that I would have to completely retune my guitar after each tune, I decided to try something a little easier. If I ever have 15 guitars then I'll start.

pineapple, palm tree, coconut is a fairly hawaiian progression.

He is not any worse than any other poster here, and the people who claim he is just don't know what they're talking about. The demonization has gotten ridiculously out of hand.
