One thing I've always admired about Dave
I respect Dave Matthews for a lot of reasons but one has been standing out in my mind lately, and that is this: Dave is a musician before he is a showman. His priority is in the music, and while that should be expected, it is a rarity in modern culture. I watch popular performers in today's mainstream music and it disgusts me. The stage is riddled with dancers, there's an explosion over there, a flying dragon over here. It's terrible. I suppose it's just an attempt to get the audience's attention off the subpar music. In any event, I'm sure we can all appreciate Dave's dedication to what he does.

I totally agree with you. The late 90's and early 2000's were very depressing for manufactured money-making music (nice alliteration). But it seems now that the real music scene that we last saw in the early and mid 90's is returning. By that I mean people actually playing their instruments and writing their own music. I think we're coming out of the dark ages, and I respect how dave just kept playing his music all the same as trends came and went.GreedylilPig wrote:I respect Dave Matthews for a lot of reasons but one has been standing out in my mind lately, and that is this: Dave is a musician before he is a showman. what does Dave have to prove? They make 85 million plus a year and that is just by playing there music. As far as I am concerned, they have done everything a band can do. Yeah, some people od what they do, but do they put music before showmanship? Most dont. It all comes down to this: Music is just a way of expression of ones feelings. Dave is himself on the stage. He is no one but Dave Matthews. And that propels his music to be truley heart driven. All of those guys on that stage do this. Which is why it is easy to laugh at them. Cause they are themselves and all these Popl culture addicts dont do that.

All these guys are guys with ispirations that did the same thing. Carter is someone who I could best explain. He loves the be-bop cats. Raoy Haynes, Philly Joe, Pappa Joe, Art Blakey, and Elvin Jones. These guys could swing. They never mad a shit load of money until recently. By recently, I mean within the past 20 years. But in the past 20 years, all have died. Anyway, they played cause they lvoed it and people came out to see. Carter is not all bout showboating(sp). I am sreu he knows he is a badass. I am sure he knows he could tear it up. But he doesnt. He puts the badn befor ehimself and thinks "what would make this art of the song sound best" or" This solo reminds me of this, lets play that way." discipline(sp).i like tictacs wrote:beau good post. for once.
and i agree with the thread. they are out there having a good time, not putting on a bullshit show. thats why i love them. same with the flecktones, if you've ever seen them play.

I love "This is spinal Tap" The overdone British accents and the bass player Derek's chopper 'stache make the movie.

i completely agree. and I think he is a showman and he loves putting on an impressive show, it's just that he understands that it means crowd pleasing and not being a spectacleGreedylilPig wrote: . . . .Dave is a musician before he is a showman. He is showman coming from I do what I do best and I give 110%. Watch me give 110%. He is for real.i like tictacs wrote:Beauford33 wrote:This amp goes to 11.
I think Dave is a showman from a different perspective. He can show that he loves playing what he does, and he really means it. He does it by conveying his emotion better than the pop signers who use dancers and fake love songs, etc. Y'know?
