Jason's 100000000000000th cover...

Unread post by DmbFanJason » Thu Mar 27, 2003 3:29 am

ok, so here is my second take of Jimi Thing(I know, bla)...but anyway, I want to get better at singing so bad it's making me go insane because I feel that it's really holding me back...so, if yall could take a listen and give me a critique of the cover, I would really appreciate it...any suggestions or things you feel are not good, lemme know...some of you heard the other one, so maybe you could compare it or something? also, you might want to turn the volume down, as it gets kinda loud sometimes......thanks guys...late.

P.S. also, tell me what you think of the site!!!

Sounds great. Your singing has improved quite a bit and your recordings sound alot better also.

Jason,

your guitar sounds great. very crisp. Vocally it soudned like you were holding back, up until the first scream or yell or whatever you want to call it when I really "felt it" from you. Sounds like you were holding back and your vocal ability sufferes a bit. Overall I thought it sounded very good. Like usual. I hope there aren't any hard feelings from our argument before. Peace and good work.

greg

first off, thanks guys for the replies...and no beef between us greg...I really don't hold grudges because if people held them against me, I wouldnt have any friends :( ....so, I noticed that a few of yall were talking about holding back...so basically does that mean that I just need to "not give a fuck" even more and just let it out?...that would be scary  ...greg, you stated that after I screamed the first time you "felt it"...so does that mean from then on it was good? and what about staying in tune, and other stuff? also, did this one have more feel or was it better than the other covers? or was it kinda the same as the rest? also, as of right now, how do I compare to others? The reason I am doing this is because I really want to start gigging and stuff   , but I dont want to make a fool out of myself...what I'm saying is what are the steps I need to take to make ya'll say "great vocals"...you know...

does anybody else have any input or comments? thanks again guys...peace

i liked it, and i think everyone's right, sometimes it sounds like you're singing fully, and other times you're not..just try to keep consistent with the volume of the voice, or tone, whatever, i dont really know anything about singing... :?

Agreeing with all who've spoken before me... the guitar is spot on, can't say a single bad thing about it, as a matter of fact it's outstanding. The vocal, it does seem "held back" at points, but after the first chours you really came alive, giving it that little extra "something" that the first verse seemed to be lacking... Overall, very good show!

that my lifelong goal!!

thanks for the replies guys.

ok...so I think we can all agree that the singing lacked something the first verse....as far as the vocals afterward, how were they? I mean, were they good great or what? how would you rate them? For some reason I have a feeling ya'll are just trying to be "nice"....give me your true input, for that will be the thing that will help me the most...give it in a nice way though

hey jason so i just listened to it. you keep in tune well which is important, so keep up the good work there. but it sounds like you are really keeping the airflow pent up and like your throat is closed. there is rarely a good deal of support under your voice. it does get a lot better when you sing the "and i say" parts leading into the chorus. there you can tell that you're moving a lot more air. you need to do that more often. this song can be a hard one to sing as it gets fairly high up during the verses but remains quiet. i would reccomend forgetting trying to sing it quietly for a while, and instead really belt it all. once you get that down, supporting and breathing well, then try and go back to the softer singing, but not at the expense of added tension or decreased airflow. singing softly is just hard. finally, make sure you get good deep breaths. there was more than one place where i could tell you were seriously running out of air as you were singing, and the way the phrases work, you should have plenty of space to breathe if you pace yourself and make sure you do it right. good show.
