After the string is on and tuned up, *gently* lift it several inches off the fretboard in the middle of the string's length. Do not let go of it and let it snap back against the neck, but guide it back to its original position. Imagine the proper stretching technique for a person before you exercise. Slowly and evenly.jakeopolis wrote:one thing that's REALLY important and most people don't do: stretch your strings after you put them on. pull them upwards, away from the body and neck, starting at the bridge and moving up the neck until the nut at the head. don't go nuts, be gentle, but if you do this, your strings will stay in tune better.
