I mess around with those every day, sometimes i do half steps (up and down)
and i did a full step up once (was pretty interesting, and it sounded like a wierd capo set up)
the trick is to do it slowly!!!! don't do any fast/sudden movements, the strings on the guitar is a soft bunny...
bend you strings often too, kind helps break in/make looser. just pull it from the body (on stage you'll see me do that with my instruments, i'll use my thumb and fingers and stretch two at a time.) it also helps it keep in tune better. whenever i screw around witht he tunings on my guitar it, and reutnr it to regular tuning, it wants to go back...

Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away
