DMBTABS.COM INSTRUCTIONAL DVD

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

DMBTABS.COM INSTRUCTIONAL DVD

Unread post by jkanter » Tue Mar 25, 2003 4:56 pm

Well, it was going to get out eventually I would think...........but here goes

I am in the process of making a DMB Instructional Guitar DVD. This DVD is being done in full hardcore fashion. I have an investor that is putting $5,000 into the project, a business manager and a patent attorney to deal with copyright issues. The project costs around $5,000 to do(with how I am doing it) and there are def. copyright issues that arise in selling DMB material. I am currently in contact with DMB Management in order to get the proper permission, and pay the right royalties, so that I can sell this DVD without any legal implications.

Here's how the DVD is going to go:
I am buying 2 DV Digital cameras. 1 is going to be focused on the fretboard(like the video's on the site) and the other is going to be focused on me completly showing the chord changes along with the strumming. I am also buying a pair of Oktava MK012 microphones(list $250 each), a clip on mic(for voice) and a mixer. The audio will be run into the computer for highest quality and recorded then synched to the video. You will also be able to switch between the 2 angles of video on the fly if you need to see different angles for different spots.

I know my video's on the site aren't perfect. All of them were done very fast in the middle of hectic times at school. I got them done fast so you guys could have them but they are by NO means the highest quality guitar playing that I could have done(as Jason pointed out). Each song will be played to as close as perfection as I can. I will be playing each part over and over until it is perfect.

The DVD will include 25 songs being played. I am going to be doing each song in sections(like on the site) to allow the maximum number of song to be put onto the DVD. Each song will be a diff chapter and each section will be marked. Although it would be nice to be able to play the whole song through, it isn't feasable to be able to do that and put a lot of songs on the DVD. With the new additions to the site will be each song broken down to how many times to play each section like, Verse x2....Chorus x4....Breakdown x1....Verse x2 blah blah blah. That part of the site will help with people who can't hear when to play what...kinda an extension of the DVD.

Each section will also have an A-B visual cue. For those of you that do know know what the A-B of a DVD player does is that it lets you set a point A....then set a point B. The DVD player then LOOPS those specific points until you tell it to stop. The visual cue's will tell you when to set the A and then when to set the B. This will provide for maximum learning capabilites of each section. You can also play each section back in slow motion(for EITHER angle...basically whichever angle you are viewing) which is somethign that can't really be done with the DivX video's.

This DVD is also being produced as professionally as possible. I am buying over a $1,000 worth of DVD production software. Once the DVD is mastered by me and my brother on our Apple computer.....it is being sent to a DVD replication house and PROFESSIONALLY pressed. This means no crappy DVD-R that won't work in your old DVD player. It is going to have a full Color DVD clam-shell case(like any of your video games/DVD's) and the DVD will have a color front also printed on it. This in itself it the most costly part of the entire process but fully worth it to provide the highest quality product worthy of the dmbtabs.com name.

I will also be providing a nice printable version of all the tabs(so they aren't split like they sometimes are). I wanted to provide a book to go along with the DVD but that is a whole other process which is a little too expensive right now.

All of this will be available to you guys for only $20. There will be shipping and handling but I will be accepting pre-orders 3 weeks before the DVD gets pressed. All pre-orders will have free shipping and handling(saves about $5) and there might be a couple other incentives.

Anyway, I guess in putting this out I can get some feedback on whether or not people would be interested in buying it. I am going to be getting 1,000 DVD's pressed initially and hope that enough people like it. Should people really like the idea, I will be releasing a volume 2, 3.....etc so all DMB songs can be learned as easiest as possible.

Once I finalize all the details with DMB Management(should be soon) the DVD will take about 2.5-3 months to make and get pressed. I know it's annoying to have to wait that long and I don't want to either, but I want to make sure this is done to the highest quality as possible and will not be cutting corners to get it out faster.

PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU ALL THINK...Would you buy this??? Is it worth it for me to do it??? Any feedback would be amazing.....peace all

WOW. I would definitely be interested, especially with all of the features you've got going. The price is right too. However, you must understand that these songs would have to be played EXACT for me to really feel good about buying it. I am by no means knockin your playing, but the vids on this dvd would have to be much more accurate than the site vids for it to be worth selling. If you can pull it off, go for it. I've got the faith. :)

Yeah, as I was saying in the initial post....all the video's on the site were done VERY fast. I was in the middle of tests for both sets of video's and really just wanted to get them done so you guys could have something. I have been practicing like CRAZY lately on all the 25 songs that I am planning on putting on the DVD. I have been watching video's to get the strumming down pat and making sure it all sounds perfect. That's what I was saying about not rushing it....if it takes 5 months to do all this so the video's are perfect....so be it. If you guys have faith and think it could work...I'm telling you it will be the best thing EVER for anyone wanting to learn how to play DMB songs ACCURATELY. I will also be proving a video clip of a song or two in order to show the accuracy to anyone who might be hesitent to buy it due to how it will sound.............GOING TO AMSTERDAM TOMORROW BECUASE MY G/F GOT ME THE TRIP FOR MY BIRTHDAY!!! CAN'T WAIT!!! Stories and pics to come...peace all

hey jkanter, that's some serious vision you have, and i think it's a great idea. while i personally will probably not buy it, i think that if you get the word out, you should have little problem at least covering costs. i also think that it would be VERY VERY VERY wise to release sample clips of the video that will be put on the DVD so as to answer any questions the public might have about the quality of the production.

good luck with this, it really is a great idea.

Would buy it in a second, no question. I have complete faith in you Jared, so sign me up now. I would like to know the 25, but I learn abouit 1000 times faster seeing someone play it and then copying than struggling through myself, can't wait to get my hands on it.

I will definitely buy this! Even though I can play alot of Dave songs, I think a DVD will definitely help me pick up things I've got wrong and help me perfect my songs. I really hopes you get this done, so I can pre-order it!

hmmm...well, this seems very promising...shit, I might even just buy a video considering that I am not exactly perfect on all the songs...If I were to buy this video, I would want to see or at least hear some clips that would be on the video...not to be rude, but with the clips on the site, I wouldnt be a happy customer if thats whats on the videos...so if you can do that, that would be great! lata!

it sure does...it seems like this might be the only video made...so far I have one person that would buy "my" video  ...so....I guess my advice to all of you buying videos would be to listen to both clips that would be on the videos(mine and jared's "new ones") and make a decision based on that...do what would work best for YOU...ya know? peace.
