some recordings for you

Unread post by UNCcrombie » Fri Jun 04, 2004 10:44 pm

well the playing isn't perfect but I have some cool ideas.

Bartdender-->Dont Drink the Water:

what I did here was play Bartender on downstrokes to mix it up a little. this was recorded with no high e string, on my old strings, because it snapped

Halloween-->Crush:
http://www.itypical.com/john/HalloCrush.mp3

dragged out Crush a bit too long. and any tips on the chorus would be nice. this was recorded with new strings which i put on last night

also, and most importantly how do they sound? not my guitar playing, i know that needs work. i just bought a new soundhole pickup and that's my reason for posting these songs. any feedback would be lovely

Hey dude, I just found your topic with no responses so I thought I'd take a look... I know what it's like to look for info and no one wants to write a couple words.

Anyway, gotta work on the strumming and, from what it sounds like, your chord changes. My best advice is to play it until you don't have to look at your hands. That's what I do with all my covers.

I just noticed that I ignored your "not my guitar playing, i know that needs work"... what sound do you mean then?

Hey,

I really liked the sound quality on these songs, what kind of pickup did you get? it sounds good, with a little bit of punch, and still kind of warm. I dig. and it also picks up just enough of the hand noises, like muting strings, that noise you get when you slide around on strings, etc. I'd keep on strumming away, you need a little work and all that but who doesnt? it definitely sounds like you're on the right track, keep on playing.

P.S. the juxtaposition between halloween and crush is pretty cool, maybe one day we'll hear your full lyrics version of that. :wink:

the chorus of halloween needs some work, and i know you said that already, but it was just way too slow
try and find an acoustic or a D+T version of crush, it'll help you get the sound you want, and it'll help you hit the right chords, sounded a bit off in the verse

yeah i know my strumming and all is off, part of which is my sweaty fingers. i get all nervous and it screws me up bad.

thanks for the criticism

oh and the pickup is a Neo-D from Fishman, no electronics
