Favorite song to TRY to play

Unread post by QuattroDore » Tue Mar 18, 2003 12:58 pm

Obviously this will vary on the skill level of the people here, but I was wondering what you're favorite song to try to play is. Translation: which song do you guys like to play that is clearly beyond your skill level. I know its cliche, but I love to do a poor imitation of the tapping section of Van Halen's Eruption.

Random movie quote to make you seem hip and "with it": I'm thinking about getting metal legs. It's a risky operation, but it'll be worth it.

I enjoy playing Stream by Tim Reynolds. With time, I will soon be able to match his speed :)

I recently got a LIVE David Gilmour DVD, and he opens the set with a SOLO acoustic performance of Shine On You Crazy Diamond, it's INCREDIBLE!! he plays the rythm & lead at the same time....

...and this is the very first song I ever tried to learn (on electric) and I've been away from it for so long now but I would love to be able to play this one straight through...WAY beyond me right now.....I'd have to spend about a month in front of the TV picking notes out..... :?

Big love by lindsey bukingham(fleetwood mac)
If you havent heard it, you should. I thought differently about fleetwood mac's guitarist after I heard it(hes amazing). Ive got the finger picking guitar and solo pretty well down, but its really hard to sing and play most of the time.

amen brother.... I can sorta hang with him until the SUPER FAST solo in the middle after the aptly nicknamed "cocaine fury" part. then I sit there and TRY to play some super fast solo (failing, of course) and then pick back up when he slows down to strum those descending chords and finish off the song thinkin, "WOW my fingers were movin fast.... and HIS are FASTER!"

I hope to have the whole thing down solid in 5 years... plus or minus. :)

Tim is just CRAZY... someday I hope to be 1/10th his craziness... maybe even 2 or 3...

Besides SMTS, which is awsome once you can strum it, any blues by Robert Johnson (Reminded of him because of the "Crosroads" post)...Playing with the slide is a lot of fun, and the rythm with your picking hand is insane...

blues saraceno "L.A. Vignette" from the plaid album. If you wanna hear the track click the link below and scroll down to the plaid album. I can play the track just not perfect everytime, I usually screw up once or so. Awe the link is weak it doesn't have the whole song, there's this pretty cool clasiscal sounding solo middle end part section thing. Is too bad blues never did more acoustic stuff, cause i'm not really down with the electric. Anyways....
