ok i just got listener supported...and have watched folsom fields as well...and listened to red rocks(though listening isnt the same)...is it just me or does central park blow everything out of the water? it just seems they have more energy than say, listener supported. might be the guitar, is the martin listener supported?

Yes, the Martin is the Listener Supported concert, and as a matter of fact I'm listening to The Stone off LS as I'm typing this :-) But I will say, CP does have a lot more energy, but I think LS is a better concert. I know that PBS did an hour spot of the concert, I believe, and I don't know if they could go all crazy or not like they did on CP. But I know that it's a little harder to go nuts when you're sporting the Pimp look that Dave was sporting for the LS concert :-P I have all the DVDs, and I like LS the best thus far, but that's just me, but they are all really good shows :-)

central park does have more energy... but listener supported is more laid back...jazzy... and tight. #41 on ls is flawless. central park is more uttad oriented while ls is more btcs oriented... i'm a btcs man myself.. 8)

Central Park is the best show I have seen so far in person or on DVD. Listener Supported was my least favorite but I still like it alot.

I think just about anyone would be pumped to play in front of that croud in the heart of NYC and DMB just fed off that excitement. It shows in the performance IMO, I wish so bad I could have been there...

in my opinion, every song on central park is the best version of that song....espcially dont drink the water...all other versions seem to be lifeless(specifically between phrases of the verse), but the central park version is awesome. and from watching the dvd, it looked like they were having more fun at central park thank LS.

Red Rocks is crucial DMB listening and one of the best live sets I've ever heard by any band.

You can actually feel the vibes through the speakers.

LS was a poor concert in my opinion. LIC is better and from I've heard from the Gorge .shn's out there, the Gorge is better than LIC.

CP is a great DVD set, awesome. Maybe because I was there, maybe because it's DMB at the height of their popularity and fame and it brought back some really good songs and Dave rocked hard and really went for it on nearly every song.

Peace,

If I were to rank the live shows hes put out thus far itd be

1. Central Park
2. Live in Chicago
3. Listeners Supported

Central Park was DMB at their best, energy wise, musically wise, and band-wise. Live in Chicago was by far the best concert for DMB music, but it at some points lacked energy. Why LiC was never a DVD is beyond me, but I love that show, special guests or not, they played their balls off with a phat ass set. Listeneres supported is Dave in a stage where he was making his best music, but it seemed theyre wasnt much energy. That was more layed back and jazzy. My favorite kind of DMB, but Central Park just is DMB at their best. Can not be beaten. Even people who I know, that dont like DMB enjoy some of the stuff on CP. This is all my opinion tho. 8)

hopefully the day will come when butch and timmy play the same DMB concert together. I quiver with anticipation.

LS is the tightest I have ever heard a band play.

it might be the editing...but it seems like the crowd at LS is waiting for a basketball game or something...i rarely hear them erupt like they did...well during the intro of almost every song at CP.

its so tough to decide which is better and heres why-
CP - best energy we've probably ever heard from the band - DDTW is so badass in the beginning after dave sings a line, then its gets loud, then soft, then loud - love that
-bring out the rare stuff, cortez was a treat for sure
-ASTB, makes a concert really great
-dave plays the taylor (didn't own it at the time of LS), personally i like it better than the martin for a full band concert

LS - #41, damn, don't think i've heard a better version, MAYBE the 30+min with the flecktones (4-20-02 i think)
-another rarity, #40, newer, better lyrics
-if you like the lovely ladies, this ones for you
-heartbeat intro, big fan of that
-dave looks better haha

both have two step, and carter is great on both of them, it really matters what you like better, "present day DMB," or DMB of 5 years past, one thing i really dislike about CP is all the NYC asskissing dave does, enough of that
both are good, and i've given up on trying to rank the live releases, i like different ones the best at different times
to each his own, enjoy them all!

Its because you can hear everybody all the time. The reason I keep pressing that fact is because the one thing I dislike about CP is when Leroi or Boyd jam, they are not audible enough to be the focus of the music. WWYS and Too Much are examples. On CP, your ear tends to wander off and listen to other instruments like the guitar or bass. On LS, whomever is jamming becomes the focus of the music, which is the intention in the first place.
