what does theory guitar consist of and where the heck can i learn it. i like to write music and lyrics but i think that in order write kickin' music you need a good solid knowledge of theory. but where can i learn it? is there any way i could learn it online or something. i'd be eternally grateful if someone could gimme a tip or suggestion. PLZ!

Guitar theory consists of knowing scales, modes, keys, and tendencies. Each scale consists of 7 notes. So if a song is in the key of C....the notes A,B,C,D,E,F,G all sound good when being played. Those are also good for chords but certain ones(Em7,Bm,Am,Dm) are to be played as minors. The 1st, 4th and 5th notes of each(C,F,G) are normal major chords. Go to this website:

It is the most amazing page ever. It will teach you everything you need to know to START mastering guitar. Most of the stuff there is beginner stuff so it will get you started....but it will explain all the stuff that you don't get from my post above. Anyway, check out that site...some REALLY cool stuff...good luck, it's a lot of work....but WELL worth it......peace man
